Alright, my poor old Palm IIIc, while still working fine, is just becoming a bit too slow and featureless. Assuming my final summer paycheck is what I expect it to be, I have a bit of money set aside for a new PDA purchase, but I'm a bit divided as to which OS to get, and I'm wondering if owners could throw in their two cents on a few of these questions. I'm mainly looking for comparisions on the OSes and the software available, but if anyone has a specific model to recommend, please don't hesitate to give it a shout, however, my budget will most likely be $250 or less. So basically what I'm looking for is: *Color screen *Expandable storage *Easy and cheap wireless capabilities *Drawing/painting program (basically, something similar to Photoshop that could import and export BMP and JPG) *Integration with Microsoft's OneNote software (I'd think if any the PocketPC devices would have this feature, but I'm not sure) There are a few other things that I'm looking for that, while not critical, would be nice: *A good MAME emulator :-D *Some sort of small 3d modelling program - I'm not asking for much, just mainly primitives and such And that's about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and lets keep replies to a more or less helpful level - anything like "Go with the PalmOS because Microsoft/Windows sucks, even on a PDA" will be deleted without a second thought. Thanks!
I'd go for a pocket pc, a good one is at the same price level as a good palm these days and they offer much more in terms of wireless connection, gps and emulators (talk to tach he can help you out in that department :smt023 ). I'd go for a dell amx30 of 5 or if you really want to go palm take the zire 71 which kicks ass but is still less multimedia then a pocket pc.
Pocket PC MAME emulation is a bit pants for everything bar the really old Atari 2600 style game. 3D modelling as far as im aware is only any use on the Linux Handheld(s). But if you got the cash, you can try Quark3D, but thats specific to certain HP Jordana's Asus A260 is a great PDA, as is the Dell Axim X30, both of which can be obtained quite cheaply as the new models are on the horizon. I was a Palm fanboy, but after using Pocket PC I wouldn't go back, as you can do so much more, with more control.
