I agree. pandora can be considered successful. And won't ever sell a million.

it depends on the target, effort and expenses; you can be successful even with small runs.

 

Man, are manufacturing costs low or what? thats the only explanation for this, since I dont see panasonic burning as much cash as they did with the 3DO

And really, they make android tablets for $99 now, complete POS but it gets the job done.

I don't know about Trip Hawkins but someone at Panasonic was Tripping when they though up this crazy idea.

If the system was release as a multimedia tablet big on games for a very cheap price and had big name suport then yes, it may just work but you know it won't

And that's how Jungle will be a fail. Because when you hear MMO your mind goes to WOW, Left 4 Dead, TF2 e.t.c. If it can't play games like this then it's a useless effort. Better try next time, Panasonic.

 

People said the same stuff about the Playstation before release.

I think this will fail, but it is interesting. Price and games are key.

 

Maybe they should just call it "3DO Mobile".

Dumb people perhaps, since after the T-rex demo every publisher out there supported the PSX in one way or another.

Not initially. Most press was very sceptical of the PSX before release. Games developers and publishers less so, but Sony did not have great support initially. Everyone was afraid of Nintendo and Sega.

 

Reading Edge for the first time some months ago I had the opposite impression.
Seemed the press recognized Nintendo as the market leader but regarded Sony as the big company that could steal Nintendo crown because they had good hardware, lots of money and publishers simply would prefer the Playstation way of doing business over the old one introduced by Nintendo.

Said that N64 had huge amount of hype before release and that was one of the reason of the good penetration in the US market.

 

well, don't know for any of you but im going ot get one, then keep it sealed, and after 10 years sell it on assembler marketplace for some ridiculous amount since no one has one

 

In that case you should buy more of them in order to sell to more people.

 

I already have one of these....it is called a "laptop PC".........plays WoW and others just fine....

It's funny though. Everyone's shit talking on it, but we all know that if it gets to 99% production readiness and then gets canceled, everyone will be lining up with four figure checks to buy proto hardware.

 

Hmmm the Panasonic Jungle.. if it had a keyboard (which it does not , or at least I see none) then it could/would be a contender to the Pandora, but one of the selling point of the Pandora in my mind, is the keyboard part. Cause I kinda like the looks of that fellow, But as WanganRunner said, it is super clunky looking. So naah Panasonic jungle.. get back in line and get a drastic redesign, and put in a qwerty keyboard with it, and make it open source plus let us see some expansion "holes" to it(USB SD etc.). Then we can talk about it, but if I stood between the choice of the "Jungle" and the Pandora, then I would at the moment choose the Pandora over the "Jungle" which I think is a prototype name of that clunky looking piece of maybe crappy console.
