I can't find anything relating to buffalowings, other than what you've posted about him.

Another way to craft a sturdy replacement is to make the whole support plastic frame, rail and other things out of aluminium bars which are relativelly easy to machine and polish until they're identical to the plastic ones. The lucky guys with a fine CNC might make some. I'll try the manual approach since I dont have a CNC, it will take probably around 20 years, but hey, using a mini drill with all sorts of bits, Alu bars found in any hardware supply store, some fine hole makers, small/fine screws/nuts. If I'll have any success (or not) will let you guys know :), if yes, then the Panasonic Q drive will have a stellar support to last for eons :D, but the CNC approach might be reasonable to get the closest shape and then shape it until its exact match.

Terribly sorry to bump such an old thread, but I was hoping that someone may have made some progress on replacement rails for the Q disc drive. A buddy of mine linked me to a thread on the NA forum and how someone 3D printed a set of rails for them (the owner/operator of rosecoloredgaming, apparently), so it looks like someone may have solved this issue. You can see the thread here: http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=5&threadid=134823

I'm waiting to get my account approved over at NA (my old one lapsed, apparently) so I can ask there as well, but just in case the same guy/site is no longer doing them, has anyone else had any luck on securing replacement rails/trays?

Just a quick update - I'm slowly getting to a working file to pass along. I've measured a good amount of the part with digital calipers and I'm handing the rail over to a 3D modeler from work tomorrow so he can model it up over the next few days. I have yet to see a 3D printable file yet for it and refuse to pay $60 for someone on eBay to make it for me.

It could be that my calipers are crap and my measurements are off, but if you're interested in trying the measurements out and starting to make a model for yourself, feel free to use what I've done so far. You can find the measurement photos here: http://imgur.com/a/K1DI7

I did, actually. Came out a bit ruff, but could be usable with a bunch of sanding and such. Considering I've seen a lot of people with the same problem though, I wanted to come up with a solution that I could share with others so they aren't taken advantage of. One guy on eBay wants $60 just to print and ship 2 rails, so that lit a fire under my butt to finish making a file to share.
