I took a little time to upload this tonight. It's the Panzer Dragoon ORTA demo from the Exhibition disc. I should probably upload the entire disc contents, but I'm going to bed soon and I don't feel like creating an ISO right now (I'm lazy). So, by all means, burn to a disc or throw it on your Xbox HDD and enjoy.

    Eat that,

    Shogun.

Thanks for the demo - can I ask which demo it is? As in which level?

So wish this game would fully work on PAL 360s, the DVD drive died on my original xbox so this just sits there gather dust. Love Panzer Dragoon.

huh? I was under the impression that it does work - or do you need a jtagged box with the enhanced compatibility patches? I could swear I saw it working on a friends box, need to check that out.

The last compatibility update allowed it to be played on a bog standard 360 - in the US that means that it was tested etc. They didn't test different regions though, in the UK (and I believe the rest of europe) it gets to the end of level 3 plays the cut scene and then crashes back to the dashboard.

Microsoft has said they have no interest in fixing it...

No one to my knowledge has worked out how to get round the problem properly - apart from leaving you xbox 360 on for 20 hours to unlock level select by default. To me that pretty much ruins the game.

Might just get a replacement xbox as they're so cheap now. I still get my saturn out to play zwei and saga. :)

Energy's right. No more than level 3 on the uk game in the 360.
I have the level select open on the original xbox savr, anyway I can move that over to the 360? silly question but no harm in asking.

Microsoft discontinued working on their backwards compatibility software updates back in 2007, so I doubt that it will ever get fixed. I don't own a [functional] 360 anymore (mine was stolen) and when I want to play Xbox1 titles, I just use a real Xbox or Cxbx if I'm lazy and willing to deal with the lack of sound.

Speaking of emulation, we need a more compatible emulator for PC. Since Microsoft's interest in Xbox1 was limited ever since they started advertising 360, I could tell the emulator would never be completed to a satisfactory level (and just because it plays Halo and all of the other more popular and overrated titles doesn't make it satisfactory). For instance, it doesn't play my favourite games like Azurik, Gun Valkyire, Oddworld: Strangers wrath, etc and it took forever for them to get games like Whacked playable.

Anyone interested in coding an Xbox emulator with me? I've already started on it...

    Only the first level.

I realy want a good xbox emulator. :p so Im teaching myself C++ and assembly a bit. But most importand thing I believe is we need to look at the existing ones, cxbx is a good one and I dunno what dxbx is any beter yet.

Anyway, Thank you for the Demo, PanzerDragoon is my favorite on the X1:thumbsup:

If I could code I'd be all over it. For now I'm but a hardware engineer who accidentally destroyed the last RAM chip he needed to make a psuedo-debug XBox...

Thanks guys. Glad to see that I'm not the only one who wants to see Xbox1 emulated to the fullest.

I say it's time for another Xbox emulator, one that doesn't use HLE at least. Please forgive me if I sound narcissistic, smug or "high and mighty" by saying this, but after being an active dev on Cxbx for years, I can honestly say that HLE is more trouble than it's worth. Sure, it was a cool idea back in the earlier days of emulation, but now, it's much further from feasible. LLE would be a better idea at this point for completion's sake. We finally have enough documentation to actually do this.

I think I actually saw some of the work you did on a forum, blueshogun96. Forgive me, for I do not remember the name of the emulator you were working on. Thanks for pushing on with it, though, because last I checked there are very few Xbox emulation projects in progress, which is a real shame.

I don't have the skill necessary to contribute to an Xbox emulator, but I would love to see one. The original Xbox is still one of my favorite systems, and it's definitely under-appreciated.

Thanks, I believe that's the 'interesting' demo. They released two and one is of level 2 or 3 but it's exactly the same as the commercial game, however this demo has some slight differences, such as audio differences... that's if I remember rightly lol.

I wish I could help with an xbox emu, but most I can do is program, I have little asm or electronics skills so the most complex emulator I wrote was a chip8 one (purely out of trying something different). Anyone know a good way to learn ASM?

Looked at FASM as was told that was a good compiler, but the examples in the windows package was full of windows only code - surely if I want to learn ASM I'd want to learn something that's useful on a x86 and then move the ideas to different processors... So got any suggestions?

Well, I can't remember exactly how I got into x86 assembly, but I'm sure most of the stuff I learned was from various online sources. Alot of stuff I learned simply by reading commented assembly code and reading Intel's assembly docs. It would be nice if I had the older docs from the time the Intel Pentium III was released so I can focus only on those registers, but the latest documents cover everything that was supported on the Pentium III still. The intel docs will also show you how instructions are encoded which is essential to understanding how Xbox software works and I'd recommend IDA pro as it is the best tool so far for examining the x86 assembly code within .xbe files and BIOS files.

So, this is what I found on google: http://www.google.com/search?aq=0&oq=x86+assembly+t&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=x86+assembly+tutorial

    Intel's instruction manuals: http://www.intel.com/products/processor/manuals/

And this is a link to sandpile: http://sandpile.org/

    Hope that helps :)

Thanks muchly - I had pulled some previous assembler tutorials, but I don't think (for some reason that must have made sense in my brain) I ever put in x86 tutorials. Seems there are a few useful links there so might upset the other half and bury myself in it over the weekend ^_^

    Thanks! :D

No problem. Btw, I forgot to add this one: http://www.xbdev.net/non_xdk/nonxdk.php

I started testing my emulator against the non-XDK code examples here. That site has been a great help to me for when it comes to figuring out how those pesky PCI devices are accessed with some real code and stuff like that.

Found this one too. Really interesting, as it even lists how many cycles it takes for an instruction to complete: http://faydoc.tripod.com/cpu/index_a.htm
