Hi guys.... I'm new, but i want you guys to know about this... i hope it is in the appropriate place. About a month ago, i was dumbfounded when i stumbled across a copy of the unreleased "Parody World: Monster Party" for the Famicom. I bought it in a lot of games and found it right at the bottom - it had obviously been in storage for a very long time. I've decided to sell and hopefully it will go to someone who is a die-hard fan and willing to share the find with the rest of the community. Here is a link to the auction: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=171247516989&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT If you have any questions, please ask here or better still on eBay as i can reply and everyone can see the response.
Have you played it yet? There is a project that exists to to "restore" the game to way it was "intended" to be played, based on unused sprite info in the ROM & other info. Is the title screen red? Does the first venus fly trap boss have a visible microphone in front of it and speaker behind it?
If you actually scroll through the auction you'll notice two youtube videos he made that happen to show two stills that answer both of those questions.
Yeah, i played it for a little while. As Bramsworth mentions, you can see shots and video of the second stage, which to my knowledge is a first for the community. I won't be dumping the game myself - i'm just going for a sale this time as i'd like to forget about the pressure of it! Hopefully, the new owner will release something or document it in some way for preservation.
Oh man, I'm glad to see this back in the public eye! If I had the money, I'd buy it in a heartbeat... as of now, I just hope whoever gets this dumps and releases the ROM...
You could always have it dumped for the purpose of a value-add - not only are you selling the cart, but the binary needed to restore the cart if something happens to the EPROM data. Doesn't have to be a public release, although if you went that route I'd suggest the guys at Lost Levels, they're very professional and will keep the ROM confidential, and then they'll also be able to analyze it fully for The Cutting Room Floor. i understand that public ROM release devalues protos, although I think that's pretty dumb (after all, the original cart is still intrinsically valuable based on its provenance when you're not talking about Sonic Crackers or the Best Electronics 2600 prototypes). Anyone who considers a not-publically-released-but-privately-dumped-for-backup-and-analysis ROM to devalue the original cart needs to seriously rethink their stance if the prototype collectors scene is ever to even attempt to reach the level of other collectible scenes that rely very heavily on provenance.
TheRedEye already posted on NintendoAge saying for others that want to join him to contact him, so I assume there's some sort of fundraiser going on there if anyone wants to chip in. I would if it weren't for the fact I don't see anything too impressive. Earliest shots of the JP version show different graphics for the first level. Would be neat if this proto had at least that, but it looks like it's just the same as the US version minus a few things. Kinda like that Strider proto for Famicom.
I never said I was bidding, I just said that if anyone was thinking of bidding on it for the sake of dumping it to contact me first so we're not fighting for the same reason. There is no fundraiser currently happening that I'm aware of. I haven't decided if I'm going to start one but I'm leaning toward no.
I really hope you do! I haven't a chance of buying something like this on my own, but I'd be more than willing to chip into a fundraiser if it meant a community release.
Morning guys... Regarding the fundraiser idea... i've had a few enquiries about that and it is a good idea i think. Could raffle the cart off afterwards to find a new owner. Someone you should get in contact with it Mike at Nintendoplayer.com as he wants to do something like that. Also lostlevels.org. I hope this helps with contacting a few people.
