Does anyone here have the browser disc for the LAN adapter (HIT-300)? It's the browser made specifically for the LAN adapter (the Broadband Passport / Planet Web 3.0 discs won't work). Thanks.

I need to test a LAN adapter out and the browser is fairly hard to come by. Is there any chance you could get / send the 1st_read.bin from the disc so I could make a quick self boot disc to test? The other files aren't really that important (if you could make a directory listing of the disc's contents, that would help a lot, but I should be able to get the actual files (audio driver, etc) from other discs). If not, don't worry about it. Just thank you for at least confirming that it is out there. :D

Thanks for the heads up, ElBarto. Storm was having the same problem. I'll see if there's anything ASSEMbler can do.

XPD works with my LAN adapter. I use it to dump DC images and browse the web sometimes and besides it is an easy to find image on the web.

Slightly off topic, but I have read that there is a HIT-0300 aswell as HIT-300, and I just wondered if anybody knew what the difference was?

They're the same thing. Some people simply choose to remove the leading '0'. The only different things are the HIT-0301 and HIT-0300 which, like many pieces of hardware are just different IDs from the box and internal documents. (Internally they might have actually used the difference to distinguish the hardware itself from the entire package, but I dunno).

Sorry to go slightly OT again but I just wondered - is there any such thing as a Dreamcast Broadband Adaptor HIT-401?

I read online pretty much everywhere that the HIT-401 was for Japan, and HIT-400 for the USA - but every Japanese Broadband Adaptor I have seen has the code HIT-0400 printed on the base sticker - although the Japanese box has HIT-0401 printed on the front.

So would I be right in assuming:-

HIT-0301 LAN Adaptor Box and documents
    HIT-0300 LAN Adaptor Hardware

HIT-0401 Broadband Adaptor Box and Documents
    HIT-0400 Broadband Adaptor Hardware

...and that there is no such thing as a HIT-401 Broadband Adaptor hardware, and that they all should have an '0' before the number (so there isnt anything actually coded HIT-400, HIT-401, HIT-300 or HIT-301)

    Thanks again ;-)

From everything I've ever seen that's exactly the case. As for the HIT-400 and such, like I said before, people often just don't both with leading zeros.

The same kind of numbering HKT-xyz0 and HKT-xyz1 for hardware/box is apparrent in other places. For instance, the DreamEye is HKT-9400, the standard Sega box for it (white, grey and orange) is HKT-9401, and the DreamPark box is HKT-9402.

Thanks, I really appreciate you clarifying it for me. Even Wikipedia has it wrong (Although I know their not always reliable!) I read about the HIT-401 being for Japan and the HIT-400 for USA here:-

    http://www.dreamcast-scene.com/index.php/Main/BBA

One last thing I am curious about though is does the HIT-0401/HIT-0301 code only refer to the box, or to the documents aswell? Or is this unknown?

Well, afaik, the US packaging for the BBA says HIT-401 as well. I don't know for sure as I don't have one. I do know that the bba itself says HIT-400, as I DO have one of those.

I don't trust the info on DCS either because most of it is not written from first hand experience but by google results and 'common knowledge'. I've been writing articles for the dcemulation.org wiki making sure to only use results I've verified from actual stuff (GDI disc dumps, photos of packaging, my own actual posessions, etc).

Next article will probably be on either 315-**** Sega hardware numbers or the HKT-**** ones.

Thanks for the suggestion, Raziel. I'll have to try it. I'm still looking for the official LAN browser if anyone has it and would be willing to send me the main binary and whatever else is required to get it working at a minimum.

And very interesting information on the packaging getting its own catalog number.

I am grabbing what i think is the right one now. It may take a little while as all I have is 3G internet and the speeds depend on the weather. Which right now we are in the middle of the worst blizzard in 10 years so I am getting about 2.3 kb/s ATM  Once I finish it from the FTP I will get it to you somehow. I have to test it with my LAN adapter but I was told this is the right working image.

Good thread. There is an HIT-300 for $5 at the local Play n Trade that I have been contemplating scooping up. This thread has rekindled my interest so I think I'll grab it tomorrow.

Fiv...whaaaaaa! :eek:h: I wouldn't have given it a second thought at even $25. Buy it and then promptly post in the "unbelievable purchase" thread. Being the least common of the two adapters, I wonder how it found its way there.

And a big thanks, Raziel. I really apprecaite the help. How big is the file?

Buy it. Even if you've no interest in the device itself you'll be able to sell it on and make a huge profit.
