    source.

Not sure what the deal is here. Paypal has been in Japan for years, and nobody uses them locally as they're so awful. Individuals will never, ever use them over local remittance which is dirt as cheap. I can send like a 500,000 yen for under 500 yen in fees.

That only leaves merchants. I doubt big names like Amazon would dream of jumping on that bandwagon, and all the mom & pop shops are perfectly happy to employ the aforementioned remittance or even COD.

    Good luck, Paypal.

All they have to do is spread around some cash and bribe some places into becoming Paypal-exclusive. I mean, that's what their whole business model is based on, making sure people have no other choice.

If they want more custom then make it free to send money to Japanese banks. It is in the US so why not here :( Also they should use a fair exchange rate not something they pull out of their arse.

That will not work w/ the current (awful) pay scheme. It is simply too fucking cheap for the average person to send money to another. It is almost free already. How do you make a business off of that? It's so cheap, you wonder why the banks in the US are so fucking stupid to not have made some type of infrastructure supporting it.
