Stupid title but I can't think of a better one right now. I've been having this problem with my copy of Nexzr (PCE Super CD-Rom^2, regular ver.). A couple of days ago, when I finished stage 1, it began from new - this time w/out music. That happened on my old Duo, so I figured it might have to do with the laser. I had already bought a new Duo-R with new laser unit, so I didnt mind about it too much. Today I received the new Duo-R and I played Nexzr to test it. The stage problem occured once again when I completed stage 6 - it just began from new after the boss (brain), so I beat it again and the game continued up to the boss and staff roll like it's supposed to. Well, any hints what kind of a problem I'm having here? The game CD looks like a perfect mirror, no scratches or whatnot. Could it be the first sign of CD data loss... that would be a nightmare :-(
It's unlikely it would be the CD. If it were data loss you'd see scratches or signs of oxidation of the data layer. Maybe it's a programming bug? Or maybe just a strange hardware issue.
I really doubt it's a hardware issue. My PCE (first jpn Duo) never had a problem with any other game before and now I've had exactly the same problem with a completely different PCE (Duo-R, equipped with a brand-new laser unit). If there's someone who had the same problem it would be nice to let me know. It kinda feels like a software bug because it never freezes or anything, just the stage is reloading. Sound effects are there, but no music. When the boss appears, the usual boss track starts. But as said, this only happened twice since I started playing the game. There are some tiny pieces of dust and probably veery tiny scratches on the disc, but nothing that would lead to unreadable parts. I'd still call it mint because most of it are small pieces of dust, not even fingerprints or anything like that. >_> The highscore's counting all the time btw! I could exploit this bug to set a new world record without letting anyone know
