Could someone who speaks Japanese translate this to English? I could transcribe it in Japanese or even convert it to romaji if necessary, but I don't know what it means. It comes from a manual for the PC Engine CD-ROM2 unit.
Very dull I am afraid. Title - To start it (the CD) playing - First pic - Press the the button once. Second pic - Presently the "0" displayed in the display window will change to "1" and the CD will start playing from the first track. Sorry it was not more exciting!
Yeah, that's what guessed it said. Just wanted to be sure. Thanks a lot, though. I'm trying (vainly) to fix my broken CD-ROM2 unit. I've already taken it apart and there's nothing visibly wrong with it, so I thought that the problem might be the interface unit. However, this shows clearly that there's something wrong with the drive itself. The unit will power on and display "0," but it won't spin the disc. Maybe I need to replace the motor?
The CD drives on PC Engines are probably just as shit as the ones Sony uses in the PlayStation I found over time. I've had 6 dud CD drives in the last 3 or so years. Mostly the laser is dead so it won't read the disc which in turn wont start the motor to spin the disc. The lasers are very easy to change though or at leastthey are in the DUO. So buy a really shitty looking unit with a dive that works for cheap then just swap the laser units over. Yakumo
Heh, actually the one I have already is pretty shitty looking. I think I'll have a hard time finding another one. Do you think maybe I could use the laser from another device, like a portable CD player for instance? If I can't do that, is there a place that sells replacement lasers?
