My local Hard Off has a PC Engine Duo Screen in pretty good shape for 1600 yen but they say it won't accept any UHF or VHF signals plus they don't have the cables to power it to find out. So basically it may have a blown power input slot or the tuner is dead. When I asked if the games worked they replied that they didn't have the connection cables. Hmm, the screen looks perfect as does the control panel. Only the top is slightly scuffed.

I'd like to know if this is a common problem and if so can it be fixed?

I picked it up and found that the UHF/VHF TV does work because I can get sound. I don't have the cable to connect the PC Engine to it though. So far the is sound from the TV but no image at all. It's as if the monitor is switched off. I'm hoping that it's just a loose wire or something. Any information on these monitors is greatly appreciated.

In any case, you'll get a lot more than 10$ for it although it doesn't work perfectly!

Anything Duo is worthwhile. Still one of my favorite consoles.

The only downside is that the internal battery loses a charge while in storage so I'm forced to replay Dracula-X every time I pull it out. It is amazing how well that game holds up against time. Even the visuals are still somewhat impressive and don't look horribly dated. :)

One of these days I'm going to have to pick up a copy of Sapphire and experience that one first hand.

Well, 1580 yen to be exact  It's in pieces now on the kitchen table while I try and figure out what's up with it. So far it looks as if no power is reaching the monitor since the back light tube doesn't even light up. Just as well I had a crap load of batteries spare to power it since it never came with a PSU.

Thanks mate. Under 9 US dollars, shipped ! Nice price ! Probably won't make any difference though. The problem is defiantly no power going to the monitor or it's back light. There's power coming from the pins that connect the wires from the main board to the monitor but from there nothing. The wires go to a metal cased box. I guess in that is the problem.

Does anyone know if the monitor has any on-screen displays?

You should take a few pictures to show us the state of the screen. Might be the case the back light is defective and it prevent the screen from starting. Or maybe the power wires need to be insulated better to avoid shortcut on the metal casing.

In any case it should be fixable, the lcd screens last forever.

BTW that line accross the top of the screen, that looks worrying, or is it just a flash reflexion?

Not that I recall. I'll dig mine out to check sometime soon.

PS If you have no need for the lead then feel free to sell it to me..one of the duo/monitor accessories i still need (although one of course comes with the monitor anyway)

I don't say this often but... I've never even seen (much less heard!) of this thing before. That's some serious stuff right there, damn serious. Hope you get it working.

Get ready to be bored after the initial "oooh" of the visuals wears off. Slow paced, buick-sized hit box. Really boring.

EDIT: Aaah... that screen. Did anyone else confuse it w/ the PC-Engine Monitor?

ok, but first I'll wait for the cable to come just in case it's only the TV tuner that's dead.

The line on the screen in the other picture is jus a reflextion. I've taken the monitor apart and everything looks perfect. No burn marks or dodgy solder. Here's a show of the screen back together.

The main board looks perfect too on both sides. No blown fuses at all. This part of the board is where the power comes from.

The shielding to the monitor looks solid as well. Nothing loose at all.

The picture below shows the box which takes in the power from the main board. This again looks to be in good shape with all shielding solid.

The wires connecting the LED Light tube are also well connected.

So I'm hoping that either the TV tuner is buggered and if it is that's no big loss or that the monitor just won't power via batteries (can't see that though).
