I have modified my original white PC Engine to play US hucards as well as the original Japanese. I used a homemade setup using 2 x MC14551BCP chips and fitted a switch to the console. All worked fine for a while, but now it won't play Japanese games and the screen is white. When I tried a US game it still works fine. I removed the mod chips and reconnected the pins on the card slot to return it to its original form thinking that the problem was with the mod chips, but the screen is still white. Any ideas anybody?
The system only needs 4 pairs of connections on the cart swapped, and an 8PDT switch; no modchip needed. http://www.bacman.co.uk/home/turbografx-region-free/
Thanks for the reply but that doesn't really help, as I don't want an enormous 8 pole switch stuck to the side of my console. The problem is that I am getting a white screen with Japanese hu cards.
Just dug out this console to have another look. I have realised the problem, the belt like cable connecting the card slot board to the motherboard had partly broken away. I have completely removed the cables as they were stiff and not easy to work with and reattached the boards using individual wires (took a while). Now it works fine, yesss!
A good thing to do is always put it aside and come back later. Great to hear you got it working on your own
