I am a long time gamer and always loved the idea of owning a PC engine white console. When in japan I purchased a white console and some games. I bought a power supply from eBay which is said to work with white pc engines. I also, purchased a custom RGB scart cable which plugs in via the EXT port on the back. I wanted a boxed console and also to keep as backup. I am not getting a signal and not sure if the system is powered on. I have also, tried tuning in using the old aerial lead on both channels but no joy. Any advice would be appreciated. Neither console seems to be responding. The power light on the Ac adapter is on therefore power is provided.
Not sure where you are located, but if the USA, You need to set your TV to 95 or 96 for RF, which would be equivalent to Japan channels 2 and 3. How are you hooking up the RGB scart cable? An XRGB-mini, sony PVM, etc.... Need more details to help pinpoint issue. Do you have a link to the cable you bought also?
Hi, thanks for the reply. I am based in the UK. The scart cable has a booster built into it apparently. I am connecting to a Sony TV which has RGB scart support. I actually think it maybe the power adapter now. I am going to try a different power supply to see if that does the trick. Do you know if the PC engine has a sound when switched on such as fans whirring. Obviously it is cartridge based therefore, it prob doesn't have any internally. But would be good to know what the sound is to check of the machine is powered up.
If later you'd like to get an original replacement which was designed for your console.. this chart has the model number and specs for your model: PC Engine/TurboGrafx Power Supply List
Nice link Venatus! I didn't expect the TG16 to be more power hungry than the PC-Engine. It seems like NEC ballooned the board to fit the case and added shields to it basically. Maybe its caused by where the unused pad is?
