I read rumors that there were was HuCard as well as a Super CDROM prototype. Anyone know anything about this? Just curious as I may not be able to get an Arcade Card as soon as I'd like. So was there anything to this rumor?
SUPERGRAFX version on SHucard: rumor, speculation, myth Super CD-ROM2 version - rebuilt into the Arcade Card CD version - real, and released.
Thanks for helping clear that up. Eventually I plan to get an arcade card, even though it's basically just for Strider and Sapphire.
yeah, PC-Engine ACD Strider is pretty awful. you'd be much better off getting Strider 2 for Playstation1, because the original Strider is included. or if you happen to have a PSP, get Capcom Classics Collection Remixed since it has the original arcade Strider also.
yes, agreed. or if he is really adventerous, patient and has the money to spend, a X68000 computer with its version of Strider Hiryu, which is very exellent, far superior to the Megadrive-Genesis version, just short of arcade-exact.
The Mega Drive version has an extra BGM track aswell as some of the collision detection bugs fixed, no version is perfect. I however prefer the detailed graphics of the arcade version, although the Mega Drive port is very dear to me.
Thanks for that link Druid II. So it seems that at one point there was a SGX version or those shots were very early normal PC Engine CD shots. Yakumo
will, I think those supposed SuperGrafx Strider screens are almost certainly not an early version of the normal PC-Engine CD Strider. they're way too detailed. they're either Arcade CPS or X68000 screens. I'm highly skeptical that the differences seen in the Strider in the 3 Japanese magazine articles are evidence of the SuperGrafx version. still, I won't shut the door on it completely as far as it being *possible* but we will never find out the true details, like with so many other mysteries within the world of long lost videogames and game systems.
For those that aren't in the know, one of the most famous PC-Engine related rumors that gives PC-Engine fanboys ultimate hard-ons is that there are 5 working prototypes of an SGX Strider. As the story goes, the main developer killed himself due to stress related issues. I don't spend a whole lot of time on Japanese boards for retro games, but I've only heard this story on the western side of the internet. That's not to say it's not true, just that I certainly think it's a load of horseshit, and there is definitely no proof (yet) to prove otherwise. What most people don't realize is that a lot of 'unreleased' games are simply games that were announced, perhaps planned, but never got into 1's and 0's (at least in playable form). I think the SGX Strider is such a case, or they flat out just didn't bother due to the SCD->ACD version. I've been known to be wrong before though.
I already have that, got it along while back direct from capcom for 15$. Very shiney. Though there is a problem with them. They had a mix up at the factory and Strider 1's disc art is on the Strider 2 disc, and Strider 2's disc art is on the Strider 1 disc.
it happened to all of them or most of them I think. my Strider 2 has the same mix up. but that doesn't really matter, what matters is, the PS1 port is nearly arcade-identical, cept for some loading time and perhaps a slight difference in resolution. otherwise its got all the graphics, color, parallax scrolling of the arcade.
Indeed that is important and what matters as an arcade game fan. However as a PC-Engine fan, Strider being available for the system is certainly nice. I don't think I've played my Strider discs since I got a PS2. I don't really like using a PS2 to play PSX titles. My old gray PSX unit had a bad mod job, but then later when removing wires I accidentically pulled a trace off the board so now it never thinks the CD lid is closed. Whoops. I still have that PSOne though. Doesn't really seem as cool as the old giant PSX systems. Oh and another perk to the PSX port, remixed music.
