PC-FXGA Videos (updated) Hello all, I have just restarted to use my PC-FXGA DOS/V board, I got it hooked up to a capture card, and I started making videos of games, demos and 3D movies rendered with the board. I didn't manage to get the videos directly on the forum via YouTube but you can see the first 2 videos on my blog. More to follow in the coming weeks. Enjoy Sabre
How did you solve the whole Jap DOS/V thing, did you install the japanese windows 95/dosv or is it running on something else?? I actually didn't buy the FXGA because I was worried about the whole OS limitation and I don't want to mess with a japanese OS.
I'm using a Japanese Windows 95, I haven't tried the card on a Western Windows as most people who helped me set up the card told me that it would'nt work. It's definitely more trouble than using an english OS, but the Windows installation was pretty much the same as always. I used an English Floppy Boot Disk, I know the installation process very well (did a lot of reinstallation in the past) and since the pages and icons are the same it's easy to figure it out. I also had big help from a chap from a Japanese site on PC-FXGA who made me a guide in English on how to install the card, there are some nice chaps willing to help out there!!! I'm not fluent in Japanese but when you know Windows in english you pretty much know it in Japanese, the FXGA is mostly operated via command line and apart from a few languages variations it's the same. I guess the most tricky part is to use the development kit where all the documentation is in Japanese, libraries are quite low level so it can be a bitch at time. But for the moment I am playing with it mostly, learning from samples I have and writing small programs to get started. I'm planning on doing an installation and user guide for the card, at least on what is shipped with the card for the few who are interested in it. But the PC-FXGA DOS/V is the most simple card to run, the PC-98 is easier to find but way more trouble due to the fact that PC-98 machines are pretty rare to non-existent in the West. Any questions let me know. Sabre
Hmm maybe I should of bought it, sounds like great fun to mess around with.. i'll keep my eyes open for one! If I do find one do you by any chance have a spare win95-jap that you are willing to sell? I have checked around but as a non japanese speaker it's kinda mission impossible! OH:
I only got the one license I have at the moment, sorry... There is an DOS/V FX-GA on ebay at the moment here, it's a bit pricey but fully boxed and complete. Sabre
Thanks I found the auction, but you're right quite expensive! the one I didn't buy last year was 99 euro's excl. shipping (not japan!) if I remember correctly.. so cheaper are out there and I am not in a hurry anyway
Thanks mate, yeah it does have that Silpheed to it, a bit scary that it doesn't look better than Silpheed though... I've made some videos for the second batch, I just need to encode them, should be up this week end. This time it will some real 3D games and playable demos. Cheers Sabre
Somewhere i have a cd of demo code for that board off of pc engine magazine before it folded / g'z degenki engine or something like that
OH!!! I would be very interested to see that or buy it off you if you are interested to part with that, then I could do some more videos!!! Let me know Sabre
Did you ever get round to writing the guide? I'd love hear about the process (though I don't have the DOS/V version)
Oli, I'm in the process of doing that though I'm a bit busy at the moment but it should be done and posted by September. Sabre
Hello, So my 360 just died on me, 3 rings of death!!! So it's time for a new PC-FXGA Video, this time the new video is on Nnyu the 2nd commercial games for the FXGA. So see you on my blog (can't post HTML here :noooo: ) http://sabre470.wordpress.com BTW Assembler did you have a chance to dig that cd with demo code you mention in this thread? Oli_lar a first draft of the installation guide is up on my blog Enjoy
Man, bloody 360's and their death rate is a joke. I'd have one if I could be sure it would last 5 years at least but there's not even a guarantee it will last 1 year Still, great that you now made a new video  Yakumo
Yeah I'm a bit pissed with it but not surprised, it's too bad because Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed are just round the corner. Oh well it's not like I have only 1 console...
Hi there. I bought an ISA PC-FXGA board, but it came without the floppy disk. Would it be possible to someone of you provide me one .img from the floppy? Thanks for your time.
Rise from your grave... thread! I got your PM, all answered! BTW most of the videos I've made of the FXGA in the past are back up on Vimeo, some re-edited: https://vimeo.com/user15581644/videos
