PC video/screen capture software

    Since i am playing more pc games at the moment and generaly on my pc more i want to be able to capture video footage, does anyone use any good software or know what is the best for capturing video and preferably one thats free. i've tried one or 2 myself that really didn't work.

    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

    i used to use one a while ago called hypercam, was pretty good as it could encode straight to divx/xvid etc. not sure if its still being worked on, but woth a look

    Fraps was my first option and does exactly what i want but seems to simple, will try hypercam when i get a chance to install it.

    Nothing beats Fraps, Hypercam seemed pretty horrible. Unlike Fraps it does not seem to hook DirectX, it records the Desktop directly (including Window frames, etc..)

    There is only one worthy alternative: GameCam at http://www.planetgamecam.com/ which works just like Fraps, but has an even uglier user interface.

    For me, recording Kega in Fraps always causes really really bad corruption in the videos afterwards.
