My first PS2 (and the only one I HW-modded) is a SCPH-10000, which means no easy possibility to play with network/HDD. Just for the hell of it I just started researching that would be needed to remedy that, and 2min later Wikipedia (of all places) tells me that there supposedly are PCMCIA to Dev9 converters around*. Anyone know anything more about that? * Quotation needed.
hmm... could it be you are talking about the consumer version of the DTL-H10010 Network / external hdd type III Pcmcia card? Xeveniah Darkwind
Maybe, but in that case the Wikipedia entry really needs fixing. Was there ever a consumer version of DTL-H10010? If not, how much should one expect to pay for a complete card setup? The ebay prices seen a bit excessive.
Terminology seems off to me. I always thought dev9 was just the internal device name of the controller, regardless of which type of expansion interface was present. In software, both the PCMCIA card and the regular network adapter (for the expansion bay) need a dev9 driver in addition to the unit driver itself (atad for the HDD). The dev9 driver controls the interface itself (like power on/off), the unit driver controls the external device. Yes, SCPH-10190. Main difference being that this model contains the ethernet port on the backside of the card itself, whereas it is connected via a small cable on the developer version. The best deal I got so far was 50 Euro for the HDD and PCMCIA card (however, that was on eBay as well). Even had matching serial numbers on both devices ;-)
If you are interesting to use somes homebrew programs on scph-10k go read here especially page 6. If the french does not fright you. ;-)
I would also add that you can use the DTL PCMCIA card and hard drive if you can't find the retail parts easily. There are I believe 4 of these on ebay at the given moment in the US. The SCPH-10000 PS2 and the Tool (DTL-10K) have some interchangeable parts.
