There's always tales of people kicking ass with their eyes closed, great players whose skill shouldn't be demeaned, but at the same time, in the middle between the guy who can't make it further than the first few levels in angry bird and the guy who'll thoroughly humiliate you and make you question your purpose in life during a street fighter 3 match, there's those who are decent at video games. not great, not bad, but ok, decent, more than decent.

I consider myself one of these.

    1) I've finished mortal kombat 2's single player ladder on medium (default) difficulty on one credit at the arcade. I still suck pretty bad in two-player mode.

    2) Without the konami code, I've made it to the middle of level 4 in Super C on the NES before losing all my lives right after the mini boss.

    3) My personal record in Galaga is 105680 points, and I made it to level 13.

    4) I can play Max Payne without bullettime and not get my ass kicked every 5 seconds (in the first game bullet time makes it so damage to enemies is lessened). it's much harder than it sounds.

    5) In the game Black (ps2 version), in one of the last missions I was holed up in a room and was being shot at through the window by a barrage of enemies, had no ammo left, was almost dead, and I could see a goon with a riot shield and a gun coming for me down the stairs. I was crouching to avoid being shot at through the window behind me. I took a chance and went to try to melee him to death. after running back up and being almost dead, I took advantage of the fact that when you're almost dead, you regain some health on your own (a la max payne). by then, he was in the room and I rushed him and managed to kill him and take his gun. what ensued was something that gave epic its meaning back as I proceeded to kick ass and finish the mission (there was a good quarter of the mission left by then). pride doesn't even begin to describe what I felt then.

    6) my single biggest personal achievement has been becoming good at megaman games. when I was a kid, I knew mega man 4 like I had made it, but I still couldn't beat wily. ever. fast forward to 2010. I am playing mega man 2 on a nes emulator (bad me, I know), and I give up. not because it's hard, but because it's boring. And then it dawned on me that it was boring because I was abusing save states to get past the game and it took out the challenge (and at the same time the fun) of it. I then vowed never to abuse save states for any games I'd play through emulators. The personal achievement here is that I then made it through the original 6 mega man games with my only help being the bosses' order. At first I got my ass kicked pretty hard, even in Mega Man 4 which I used to be the best at. but as I soldiered on and racked the game overs I started gaining skills, I started getting better. I finished mega man without using any save states, and did so through mega man 2 to 6, even taking screenshots of the passwords so I could continue from where I left off without using save states when I had to close the emulator. In a matter of month, I had become as good as I was back when I was 6 years old. I even started to remember secrets and traps in Mega Man 4, a game I hadn't played since-- you guessed it, I was 6 years old. After finishing all 6 nes games, I took a break from mega man games, and yet even today I'm still good at those games, even mega man x games don't give me as much trouble as they used to.

I've completed Viewtiful Joe on Adults without dying. That was quite an achievement for me considering how many times I died against Fire Leo the first time I beat the game - then after a few playthroughs I could beat him without losing any hearts. It's especially funny to me considering how much whining there was on some forums I used to go to at the time about the Magnificent Five.

I've 1CC'd over 50 shooters (2D shooters), including Radiant Silvergun*, Battle Garegga, Dodonpachi, Metal Black, and Batsugun.

Haven't been playing the genre lately though... 360 was rockin' 'til it all became Cave Cave Cave.

*- Radiant Silvergun SHOULD have been a 1LC, but my alarm clock went off during the final boss. >_<

I also suspect I have the highest score in the world in Blast Wind. I have no proof of this other than I've never seen a HS table where my score was beaten (I broke 5 million, IIRC most high scores are in the 4.6-4.7 million range.

I completed all stages of I Wanna be the Guy with all the secrets. It took some doing but it's was worth every second of punnishment.

A friend and I played though all of Crysis 1 and 2 in one day. One day being from 10AM to ~1AM. I didn't even get up to go to the washroom between then, or to eat. We had food in the room though.
Of course we didn't stop for dialogue or anything unimportant because we've both played the games fully several times, including with an ultra supreme-extreme hard setting on (self modded).

Here are a couple of minor accomplishments that I'm proud of.

In "Front Page Sports: Ski Racing Featuring Picabo Street" I could ski up to the right angle corner behind the start where the orange netting marking the boundary of the playable trail was, and between a frantic combination of skating and jumping (usually takes over a minute), somehow clip myself through the net and ski outside the area I was supposed to.

In Jet Grind Radio/JSR on dreamcast, there was this area where you could grind on some girders over water in that orange level. I found that I could reach and grind on this area backwards by jumping to a boat in the water, and then just barely jumping from the boat to a wall - doing a wallride, and from there, just barely reaching the end point of one of the girders, thereby grinding through the whole area backwards. This description probably will confuse anyone who reads it, but nonetheless, it's a very tricky thing to do, which you certainly don't ever have to do in the game, and I've never seen anyone else do it.

I beat Sonic Shuffle on 1 player with no cheat codes. :)

I beat Karous on normal difficulty without firing a single shot (using the passive shield) Only died once.

I was playing Suikoden II for the first time, and somewhere on the world map, I walked up to a gate that was no where near where I was necessarily supposed to be - and all of a sudden my character pushed it up as if it were a block and I had access to a much later part of the game where the story made no sense relative to where I was in the story, and all the random battles were super powered compared to where my characters were. I later saw this mentioned on gamefaqs so it is probably a well known glitch - but back in the day, I discovered it myself, and that always seemed like an amazing and completely unexpected discovery.

I have 200/200 on Fez and I have finished ThunderForce V with one life.

I was also pretty close to 1cc'ing Einhänder.

I used to be able to get through MegaMan X with everything with just one life.

I used to be able to finish StarFox with just one life as well (though this one is easy as fuck for anyone.)

I'm not a very skilled gamer, unfortunately.

That's actually pretty goddamn amazing on two counts. First because the AI is so ridiculously cheap in the later boards, and two because you must have had the patience of a saint to sit through the single player of the later boards.

I always liked Sonic Shuffle though... thought it was much more intelligent and interesting than the Mario Party games.

I finished Earth Defense Force 2017 on all difficulty settings and got 1000/1000 gamerpoints.
Nothing too amazing, but it's a personal achievement for me.

The AI in that game was fucking ridiculous! It cheated so much and would ALWAYS get the best cards to play with. I beat it a couple of times, but not without screaming at the game more than a few times.

I thought I would unlock stuff if I beat the single player mode of sonic shuffle. I didn't. I also lost and had to retry the last couple boards maybe 2 or 3 times each because of the cheap AI. I knew there were only 6 or so boards though, so that kept me going once I was 3 boards in.

My world record on Burnout Paradise for Road Rage mode consisting of most takedowns in one session which still hasn't been beaten...

When in 2009 I was one of the best goal-scorers (many within the PES community say the best goal-scorer) on Pro Evolution Soccer in 2009:
