Minor thing I know, but I see it all the time online and it can be just as off-putting as those who always post in l33t-5p3@k. "Info" is the proper way to abbreviate "Information." "Infos" is completely and utterly incorrect when speaking/writing English. You should never use it. Sorry for the rant. -hl718
My guess is that you are a grammarfag! And that rocks! I am one too! I even correct my family/gf when they are murdering our language.. XD
I usually avoid reading any posts that do not adhere to proper English. The content can't be worth that much if the writer is such a moron anyway.
I have to agree with you but on the otherhand there are many none native English speakers on this board and the net in general who probably don't know the correct way. Another is musics. Music is none countable yet some people write musics. It's not just none native speakers that make mistakes though. Here in Japan I've seen many American cinema adds saying dates such as "September seven" and not "September Seventh" as it should be. yakumo
This reminds of one of my pet peeves..the word "prequel" constantly being used in the wrong way. A prequel is something that was made after the game/movie/whatever and decipts its past, hence the term prequel: a blend of pre- and sequel. If something was made before a game/movie/whatever and decipts its past, it's called a predecessor. Goddamn, get it right.
This does perhaps not come as a surprise for some of you. But some times when I see my old posts, then I edit out the bad grammar and replaces it. With the correct grammar that I know off. But there has been times where I couldn't rewrite my posts, because the threads had been locked. But a grammarfag ? wow that is a new word which I used to call a grammar Nazi. And well I have written at least two threads about bad grammar. So hl718 I understand your frustration, and Barc0de; is hl718 a tosser ? or was it more in some other context you were you were referring to ? and well to be perfectly honest, my English is definitely not the best, but I am working my arse off, to do the best I know in spoken and written English. And some days ago there I was talking to an American woman, and she was very surprised how British I sounded in my accent and pronunciation, and then I explained to her why I sounded that way. (just an old thread about bad grammar) http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16587
excuse me, I fail to see how I insulted anyone here. I was referring to cases of extreme illiteracy, when reading the text makes next to no sense, often including bad grammar and vocabulary. I m a fairly flexible person mind you. All i m saying is that people who are knowledgeable usually have a more structured way of writing and try to keep mistakes to a minimum for the sake of the content being readable by everyone. I'm in no way perfect myself, but I do make sure to use the built-in dictionary tools every time I see something underlined. It would be lazy not to.
I feel bad for barcode. If you have had time to post 9000+ that means you have had to read a lot of bad grammar posts here. Does anyone else have any infos on grammar issues happening around here? :110:
What are you talking about? Your written English appears to be fine. People are just being sarcastic and silly now.
Here's what bothers me: Misuse of "redundant" when "repetitive" is the most appropriate word. And of course...... defiantly definately definitively difinitely definantly .. It's "definitely", bozos! (Oh, hey, somebody made a webpage about it!: http://www.d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y.com/ ) Yeah, I'm a grammar nazi, but I never jump down somebody's throat when I'm aware English is not their (ahem, his/her) native language.
it's funny how many non-native speakers write better and can structure better sentences than native speakers. In defence of "bad"native speakers, I know day to day speak doesn't require you to talk like an academic so it's understandable, although better writing does improve the merit of a post in forums and other written media - makes it sound all serious and convincing!
