Forget the Neo Geo X this thing kicks it's ass at NEO GEO emulation and tons of other consoles and computers! Any doubt check out Qbertaddict1's Youtube page for demonstration videos! https://www.youtube....N2MemZkgn_eSd3e This is the handheld emulation device built by gamers for gamers, it is not a walled garden but an open sourced device. Here is the Kickstarter, check it out and decide for yourself ! http://www.kickstart...gaming-handheld
I don't see why they can't make a new Neo Geo console using the original hardware. It seems like with the current state of technology, it would be possible to make an incredibly tiny version of the 68000, for example.
I totally agree, my view of SNK was using their license to get a low grade developer to slap their name on a low end device and quickly cash in on the NEOGEO fanatics, just as Sega did with the Atgames devices, perhaps these companies simply have no real faith in the classic gaming market to really give a shit. It is sad, but worse is all the people sucking it up and encouraging it sending the message that "Hey it OK we'll be thankful for any bone you throw us!" As for this device, trust me as owner of Dingoo / Caanoo / Yinlips / JXD devices with varying degrees of satisfaction I too was pretty skeptical at first, but I watched all of Qbertaddict1's videos (He got a dev unit) and every video I watched, the sound the performance, the sharp screen, aspect ratio etc, the plain look of the handheld seemed to betray the quality of the display and emulation, the unit will be competitively priced like JXD and Yinlips but it is NOT an ANDROID device so it is not using those emulators, it's already running a basic OS that runs many emulators form Neo Geo to SNES and PC ports REALLY WELL and development is continuing to port even more games, emulators and apps. I AM THE LAST ONE to start a post yelling the praises of some new clone or handheld etc, but following this right from development to speaking with some people involved I am personally excited as a classic gamer, everything thus far indicates this will have the competitive price along with the performance. Again, I could care less if anyone is convinced, I am just being honest and raising awareness and hopefully support for an item that I think is the closets I have seen to "getting it right" If any if you watch the kickstart video followed by the Youtube playlist videos (I promise you will think THAT is what I wanted form the NEO GEO X HANDHELD!!!) if after that you are not at least somewhat excited or at least interested than fair enough!
Can´t they design a device where the display and control parts are separate pieces which click together and where you can attach the controls at any given side of the screen? That way you could rotate the screen and play vertical games more comfortably. In the 80s they called such a device "controller port". In this case there would just be no wire, the controller would click right into the screen. Then just detach, rotate screen, reattach controls to play horizontal games
Well I hope this device turns out to be everything they are hoping/saying/wishing it to be. So far every handheld with emulation in mind fails somewhere. The PSP does a pretty good job but it just needed a bit more processing power for a few things.
As a pandora owner I will say one difference, the guys behind this at least have had several beta units out and delivered, they do not have a manufacturing or supply issue. Yeah unlike the whole OpenPandora debacle these guys have already proven to get units out the door now they just need funding for production on a larger scale. Unlikely you will see anything like the OpenPandora nonsense of constantly pushing back release (by months/years!) excuses and false promises faulty shipped units etc, etc, put simply these are not the same people and should not be compared to the group behind Pandora, that whole project was a mess all the way through. For what they charged the Pandora devs had no excuse besides bad management and planning. These guys have delivered on their first production run. Anyway, see it all for yourself with details on the kickstarter link and see the quality thus far with Qbertaddict1's video playlist.
Interesting I dont like the pandora thing, because of above stated reasons, and this one looks nice too. Opensource is not bad at all, but you just dont get the newest highest specs... but for Oldskool gaming its not required, I hope all sources will be open (Like no Codeblobs and all (like Raspberry Pi with its "Video" source actualy just a driver.))
