I haven't seen this uploaded here yet (Although I could be blind ;) ), I'll try and upload it today if anyone is interested? It's an Asian port of the DC version. Its about 1GB in size if I recall correctly. Strictly speaking its not unreleased, but only released in Asia in limited numbers.. I figured that would be okay? Its in Japanese/English.

    Anyone want it?

That sounds cool. I've never played PSO online before, I'd like to give it a try.

Actually there never been a official english release of the PC version. (Still, just like other Sonic Team games it supports english natively. You just need to select the language during the install.)

Also, if it's not the hacked version, you may need to switch your PC locale (non unicode region) into japanese to install and play.

    Ahhh, good ol PSO...

I still play this on my Dreamcast on schtserv ^.^

Although this would be going a little sidetracking....anyone still play online on the Dreamcast? I haven't seen many dc players....just mainly pc ( and if there are dc players it's for the most part people playing v2 with that hacked psodc disc :'( ).

Cheers and hope to see more players online :)

Oh, and on that note maybe we should tell each others names in here so we know if a fellow member comes online :D

Currently the Schthack servers support Phantasy Star Online Episode 4 which was the last part of the series so you can play 1, 2 or 4 on the pc. Of course episode 3 was that gamecube exclusive card battle one.

If you want to play pso it would be best to grab the Schthack installer.

I haven't played online in a while mainly because I am trying to finish my Ph.D and this game can take a little time! But I do want to get back into it sometime!

I'll revisit here if I do play again.

I play with my BBA. I talked about it a little on my blog ^.^

I'll be down for this around mid-February when classes end here and I get my hefty 2 month break. Of course, that's if I can find anyone else willing to play at that time..

I played this a while back. The only real problem is that it runs in 640x480. On a modern PC monitor its not good.

iirc it can run in almost any resolution, atleast there was a hack for it to do so, or a registry setting.
Since it uses normal Direct3D function calls, many graphics drivers also allowed you to override the .exe graphics settings for anisotropic filtering and anti-aliasing, making it look better even at lower resolutions.

(could be, that the increased res only worked with PSU or shadow of illuminus, has been quite some time since I played it)

One thing I liked about the Schthack site was that they also distributed a stripped down server that you could run locally on your own PC. Set up some bogus DNS that points all the Dreamcast requests to that machine and you've got your own LAN Phantasy Star Online party. Obviously, that's the sort of thing that requires multiple BBA units.

not neccessarily. Since BBAs were quite rare in Europe, we hooked up a kinda null-modem connection between the DC modem and a modem connected to a serial port on our pc and shared our network connection with this additional virtual network adapter. Worked quite well and saved a lot of money :)
