I had a question regarding the Phantom Dust import version. This is the NTSC/J version but it is written in Chinese. Inside with the manual is a white card that basically says: The Japan XBOX Team would like to congratulate and thank you for 3 great years! Happy Anniversary! And on the bottom it has 1104 Part No. X11-01561. And on the disc it says Limited Edition 11/15/04. Was this given to the developers only?
Possibly a mail order limited edition? It's very hard to say, for example the Halo Combat Pack in Australia came with a note saying thank you as well but was on store racks. Sadly, information on Japan XBOX items are hard to find.
I believe I have JPN LE of this game some where in the TV room shelving. will have a look to see what's the difference... in general Asian versions were basically JPN disc with English booklet. p.s. many moons ago I wrote the mini review of JPN demo disc I got
Wait, I think I saw this exact same disc cover in Singapore before. I notice that the disc is NTSC, have you tried it on a NTSC-J machine and see if it boots? Asian XBOX NTSC-J are often made in Singapore as indicated in the manual or back of the case.
Unfortunately I do not have a Japanese XBOX console to test it on to see if it runs. The date 11/15/04 is the 3 year anniversary date of the launch of the console. For some reason at first I thought it was the launch date of the game. So from what I gather, all Asian XBOX games would have a Japanese region disc inside? And this one is an exception because there is a NTSC American disc inside. Let me know dj898 what your version looks like. And I thank all the rest of you for helping me figure this out. By the way, when I play this it is not in any Asian language. It is all English which is confusing since this was supposed to be for China or Singapore?? And why would the thank you card be in English as well??
Yes Asia version games are NTSC-J. Xbox had 3 regions PAL, NTSC-M and NTSC-J. Some games are hardcoded or softcoded into Japanese or Chinese, hardcoded means if the system is PAL the game will be in Japanese or Chinese regardless of system language. If you change your dashboard to Japanese, Chinese etc the game should then play in that language. Be sure to see if that's the case with this disc.
Interesting. It definitely fits the tell tale signs of signapore games being in English and Chinese but all the ones we have have ntsc-j discs in them. This date and the English letter make me think this is a congratulatory gift to the American xbox team from the Japanese xbox team. The date references the launch of the xbox in the states and the game though partially in another language is playable(ntsc) and readable(english) for Americans. It would make sense that its a limited edition too because that date is before the release of Phantom Dust in the states. There does appear to be a limited edition of this game though: http://www.play-asia.com/phantom-dust-limited-edition-paOS-13-49-en-70-2sye.html
