Went to install a phantom modchip on a 64 pin jvc model 2 sega saturn I jumped the center pin to the jvc point and installed the 5v wire (second pin down from the top on the psu) when I went to test the unit there was feedback on the audio and the disc refused to spin up.....so I completely unplugged the chip and plugged the cd drive in like normal and the feedback was still there and no disc spin up still...... all I did was solder the 5v wire and plug in a chip...anyone have any idea what went wrong? The feedback still remains even with the cd drive completely unplugged, it's not the av cord either as I have swapped out systems. This system worked before I installed the modchip.......
Saturn's have odd audio with no drive attached. Sounds like you have the ribbon installed upside down, so it's not connected and you have the "no drive" noises.
Ya someone over on fb that seems to know his stuff said to go threw every thing a little bit more carefully and to remove the power wire from the bottom of the psu entirely. As a side note I've tried reverting back to no chip with the ribbon wire both directions....but this one being a 64 pin had the oem ribbon wire creased in a couple spots perhaps I had only one end in the incorrect way? I'll have to Google some pictures and see what I can see I suppose, I should have paid closer attention to the ribbon wire BEFORE removing it.....oops. EDIT: found an image that shows me the correct orientation of the oem ribbon wire, will mess with this again when I get home as it looks like it's folded so the orientation is flipped on the motherboard side Also in the instructions it says something about noise if you pull the power from the psu is that possibility the issue here or is it referring to something else?
Well I will go back to messing with it once I get home from work ive been racking my brains with this and the only cause I can come up with is the orientation of the original ribbon changing after the creases and getting the feedback for the "drive not being connected" like you mentioned above (that I didn't know about) and I will take it from there I guess
I like making threads like this tho even if they are simple duh fixs it keeps me from flipping my shit and throwing the project across the room as well as gives me time to think and others the opertunity to give me some input towards hopefully a solution
