Phantom Universal Install on Model 2 JVC White Sega Saturn Half Working..

A friend and I spent a couple hours installing a phantom universal mod chip into a Model 2 JVC White Sega Saturn only to realize it's sorta only half working. Here's some points below.

Only plays burned games with the action replay. It will not boot into the game without it. We figured that the phantom universal would only work if it's installed in the black American Sega Saturns. We find the chip is patching a region code to a burnt disc, Patching American Regions on a Japanese Saturn.

We found that the levers that keep the ribbon cable secured on the MB21 and CD21 ports are hard to use and we knocked it off from the port so the black piece of plastic is no longer on it, we can get it back on but only just by a bit. When we did our tests we made sure everything was secure and snug many times and spent a ton of time longer than when we expected we originally started with a 5-minute modding estimate.

Not really sure what else to try at this point. Your suggestions and advice would be appreciated.

 

Chip works in all consoles, confirmed many times. The modchip does not touch the region, this is how the saturn works. If you install the chip in a japanese saturn, you can play japanese CDR's. To play USA or PAL games, you need a region free bios, region switches or an action replay (which is probably why you are saying it works by action replay).

Ah, okay that makes sense. I suppose it's not something to focus on since I already own the Action Replay 4M Plus. At the time I was thinking it was already built into the mod chip. Now to work on fixing those black lever clips for the cabling.
