Hey All, I've got a bit of a issue. I'm running Photoshop CS4, part of the creative suite, on my Acer Aspire 6530. Basically, if I use the text tool, regardless of the file, layer, or setting, when i want to start a new line of text, or do a return, hitting the return (enter) key commits it instead (thinks I'm done editing the text) Shift - Return does the same thing, as does combination with ctrl and alt. It does work if i use Fn-Return but i find this a hassle and awkward. Interestingly, plugging in a normal usb keyboard, and it works fine on that keyboard...just not on the laptop... Anyone have any ideas what's causing this (should be mentioned this is a laptop with a numeric pad, with another enter key which does the same thing) Cheers Ryan
Stuff like this happens with laptops pretty much only. In my own experience its because they use weird adapters for the way they send the buttons. My girlfriends laptop when she tries to log into her router one key turns into 5 somehow I dont understand it.
You mean a on screen keyboard? I'm thinking i might be able to change photoshop key commands...but I'm not sure yet! Ryan
Have you tried e-mailing either Acer or Adobe? One of them may be willing to assist. I'd say Fn+RETURN is not that much of a hassle, especially compared to using an on-screen keyboard. In fact, if you use Photoshop key commands (for example CTRL +/- to zoom) then it should be second nature anyway.
I think it might be in part of the new keybaords Canada has. The left shift key is shrunken in size to make way for a special "bilingual" key, as the keyboard is meant for both english and french. I sent an email off to acer to see whats up, maybe i should look into remapping keys in photoshop Cheers Ryan
There are programs to remap keys normally, for example I purchased a Acer Aspire One in Australia as the exchange rate meant it was cheaper then buying in the UK. However the " and @ keys are in the wrong place so I remapped them. It's quite flexible and you can map keys (including dead keys) to what you want. Microsoft do one, download it here This program is a keyboard test program but will give you the proper keyscan codes, so you can use see the difference between your USB and normal keyboard.
You might possibly be able to get an oldschool keyboard for it and switch them over. Have you checked the keyboard language? That maps keys accordingly - it might be set to something odd.
