The slot in the ED64 won't allow it to fit because the area the micro card would reside is covered with a metal shield. You'd need to change the SD slot for another one to make it work.

^ I actually made a short how to guide on doing this. Not soldering the wires straight to the slot but using another adapter cut down in the slot to make the setup removable.

this would work, sd adapter cut in half, pins bent over and stick the micro sd to the metal cover on the everdrive sd slot

Can you plug and unplug the cart easily?

^^ I would avoid bumping the cart with that thing as much as possible.

it's probably been answered before, but why not use a micro sd card slot in the first place?

still wish we would have voted to have Micro SD instead of having an SD card sticking out

We had a vote on the forum, SD won because people wanted to pull their sd card out all the time, even though the entire n64 romset fits on one sd card and is updated 3 times a year if that.

And no one thought to include both like on the Mega Everdrive? Pity...

ED64 was created before the MegaED. The MegaED also costs quite a bit more. I wouldn't be surprised if Igor ever goes back to the ED64 for a 3rd version he would probably add microSD as well. Although i doubt that will happen anytime soon if ever.

A simple solution to get around the issue of having to remove the SD card is to just include a built in reader. Have it soldered directly to the slot and use wire to put a female USB port in a hard to see corner of the cart. Say towards the bottom where the console casing would cover it up while plugged into N64. Then a micro slot could be used to reduce the size. Update it by USB cable. Even use it as a "USB mass storage device". LOL.

Would be cool to do that with say a 32GB card. Enough room for the whole N64 collection plus god-knows-how-many hacks as well as whatever else you wanna hide away. Your porn collection maybe? (That be joke people...)

:confused-new: I believed that the processor of the N64 was mandatory to transfer data through USB ? I also believed that the FPGA was powered by the cartridge port ?
How could it be possible to access data in the SD card ? :confused-new:

i think he is thinking of adding a full cardreader (with it's own usb controller and hardware). I wonder if the everdrive would be still working with a cardreader added permanently to the sd card. It doesn't sound like a good idea, in a technical view, for me. ^^

Exactly what I was thinking. I was wondering about the issues too. I don't see any problem as long as the Everdrive is powered down or unplugged while using the SD reader. Then don't connect the SD reader while the ED is powered up. As long as there is no power to one or the other devices, there should be no issues with signal crosstalk or feedback.

The built in USB of the ED64 is for development purposes only and can't be used to "talk" to the SD card. Just to the FPGA and memory chip for live code updates while console is powered up. So my idea would have 2 USB ports if it were to be used for development purposes. Perhaps add a 2 port USB hub in there for 1 port connection only?

i think it's possible to write a program for the n64 that let you 'talk' with the sd card :D
unluckily my ed64 has no usb port, so someone else have to program one ^^
    sounds like a nice project...

    cheers, saturnu
