I am looking for pre 1994 pictures of alpha playstation hardware. This is for the "rack" style psone machine. I saw this machine once a long time ago and was not allowed to take pictures of it. Anyone have a lead on pictures?
I had a picture of a Ps2 prototype on a rack. A green table-like thing with wheels under it, two stories, and a ps1 controller comming out of it
was it pictured in any game magazine at any given time in history ? only remember pictures of a 3do tower size 1 meter high with dozens of boards
playstationmuseum.com had a bad picture labels as a DTL-H500 target box. From memory the picture was like a PC case and contained a back plane with slots for various boards. CPU, GPU, SPU etc. It's claimed that the SPU boards were generally not installed. I don't think they had a CD drive at that point. I'm really interested in the hardware of the prototype playstations. The GPU on the arcade version of Tekken was an earlier version, which is actually quite different from the retail version ( which is why it took a while to be emulated ). The earlier versions are likely to use a different processor on the prototype boards & the GTE was possibly implemented with a microcoded chip ( maybe a DSP ). smf
I'm going out on a limb here, but you're not thinking of early Sony NEWS workstations are you? Back in the day, there was a add-on box and card for teh Sony NEWS to develop PS titles (before the proper dev kits came along).
i know its not much help but i found a magazine with a picture of the Arcade PS2 unit which islike a PC case if thats any help for anything whatsoever... Actually not much help at all.. ... sorry willl get back to hunting!
