I recently purchased a CLD-A100 in semi working order. The CLD-A100 without Sega PAC works flawlessly.

With the Sega pack installed the main menu is missing Icons and I can't control the selector.

The Sega genesis portion worked partially (Froze up after 1 minute of gameplay. I have now replaced all of the capacitors.

The Sega Genesis portion works flawlessly now.

I still have the problem of the missing main menu items and lack of control of the menu.

Does anyone know what could be the problem? Could it be a bad BIOS EEPROM? The only time I have seen an image of the main menu without the Sega logos, was when someone dumped their bios and tried to use it with a Sega Genesis emulator. In my units current state I cannot play Sega CD games, and to play CD's and Laserdiscs I need to remove the Sega PAC.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    -Scott

It must have leaking capacitors which caused traces to cut. Hence the malfunction.

I have replaced all of the capacitors and have fixed all traces that came up when removing the capacitors. I do not have any leaking capacitors.

The fact that the logos are not showing mean you likely left some traces for the two bigger ZIP RAM chips (2x64KB, that ram is used as transfer memory for data processed by the zoom/rotation co-processor and for data that has been read by the CD-Player) still interrupted. Without that memory the MEGA-CD unit can't operate properly.

Keep in mind that just one broken trace is enough to make the ram impossible to operate.

You don't need to. use a continuity meter instead. And the MEGA-CD service manuals.
