Hello everyone! So I've been seeing a lot of new A/V cables (Composite, S-Video, RGB, etc.) for various consoles and I was wondering where people get the male plugs to make these cables? I'm talking systems like the Dreamcast, the PlayStation 1/2/3, and the SNES/N64/GC; consoles with proprietary connectors. Is it some obscure shop in China or is it a common store? Any help will be highly appreciated!
I've simply started adding DB9 connectors to all my consoles that support RGB, along with RCA connectors, and svideo where applicable. Sure, it results in having to make holes in my consoles, but stuff having to use priority cables!
For male Nintendo multiout connectors: http://www.play-asia.com/rgb-cable/13/7064 Play-Asia's RGB cables are fully pinned IIRC, but the cables themselves are shitty quality, but are only $4 apiece. So you can buy some of those and salvage the multiout connector and the SCART connector and use the wire for something else. For Dreamcast, beharius's Toro box uses what I believe is repurposed connectors from cheap A/V cables, with pins added, as the connectors appear to be disassembled and sealed with heatshrink. For PSX, I'm not really sure.
Buying original A/V cables for some systems can be difficult these days as the items can be rare and expensive. It therefore makes sense to add universal connectors to your system, like Ammojammo suggests, which also means one universal A/V connector block for all the systems you have.
just don't re-wire standard video cables ie: don't put 5v on a VGA plug where there is meant to be H-sync.
If I really had to I would use 9 pin D-Sub instead of VGA connectors as I would only need RGB, sync signals, and audio. I need to know where to get the Dreamcast connectors since I plan on making a product to sell for that console.
