I'll be spending 20 days in Rome next Febraury, and I was wondering which were the best places to visit, museums, bars, etc. Some members on the board are from Italy so maybe they can tell me a little bit more about the city.

beside san pietro, coloseum, piazza di spagna, and the usual places i would suggest you "altare della patria" restored not too long ago.

I wouldn't recommend you to go to the Hardrock cafe, it's most likely an overpriced tourist trap and it is nothing Italian. Central and Southern Italy makes some of the best coffee cups ever. Short and strong coffee (what you call espresso). They do suck in Northern Italy, though.
This is the reason for which Starbucks has never (and never will?) open in Italy.

There's a lot to see around Rome, the vatican, the colosseum... ok, I'm advertising my area (naples), but a one day trip to Naples and to Pompeii would be worth it as well.

Yeah, not sure why you'd want to visit the hardrock cafe.

Aside from other things suggested make sure you visit one of the many restaurants with seating on the pavements. Great gnocchi and pizzas for 5-6 euros and you can have a smoke after. You should walk round the roman ruins near the coliseum too. Other than that the armory museum was quite a good visit.

Just have a good walk around too, it is one of the few cities in the world that has good architecture throughout the majority of the city, around the parks and train station seemed fairly shady, yet still nice. A look from the top of st peters Basilica is good, though expensive (7 euros? and you still have to walk up on the most lopsided steps I've ever seen. I want to be teleported for that price!) Don't buy a drink there either. Paid 5 euro for a feckin gatorade!

Also pick me up some tobacco will ya. 3.50 euros for 40g, £11 for 50g over here! Good thing I stocked up over there!
