I'd like to go to Japan this Christmas break, but tickets are around $1500 right now. Is that the normal price, or am I looking at the wrong websites? Is there a specific time to try and get tickets at a cheaper price also. Any help would much appreciated.

Until oil prices go down, you're not going to find a cheap ticket... at all. There are budget tickets on places like Ebay I hear, but you wind up going to Tokyo via Australia and shit like that. Also, Narita jacked up their fees. Each ticket (at least originating from Narita... probably to and from though) is about $350 before you get on the plane. It's of course, a rip off, and Japanese aren't into that whole stand up when you're getting butt-fucked mentality, so it's not going to go down.

If it makes you feel better, I paid $500 USD to take my son on my lap for 13 fucking hours two ways.

Generally going anywhere around christmas time is going to be expensive. Going just after or mid January will be slightly cheaper.

Load up expedia.com and look at a number of dates. I found that going on the 29th of December for one or two weeks showed up flights on United for around $1141 or so, but it depends on airport, but San Francisco was $980 and New York was the above price...

Although that price is without taxes which would be another $450 on top. But still you should be able to get a flight for around $1000 or so.

Do these discount flights only exist in the U.S.?
I'm going to visit Japan this year and the flight is about 1000 EUR ($1600), I think... :noooo:

You can get discount flights in other countries too but you do have to plan your trip going around summer time / christmas is generally a bad idea. Spring and autumn are much better times to go as is just after christmas too.

Greenchu, you should look a little harder because when I plan trips to Japan, most of the time they go through Berlin or another German city because it's much cheaper? If you look around, you'll find tickets for around 800 euro's, but I doubt you'll find them below that tbh, tickets in Europe are just more expensive than America :( .

What the fuck! You're joking, right? I'm thinking of taking my son to the UK next year when he's 2. The UK cost almost twice as much to fly to than the US as well! I normally stop off in Singapore for a day when I go to the UK via Singapore air. Mainly because it's cheaper but also because I want to fly from Fukuoka to Manchester, not that shit hole in London known as Heathrow and that Singapore air are the best company I've ever been with. They crap on the likes of British Airways and JAP from a great height in ever respect. But if I'm taking my son I can't really be stopping off in Singapore because it's far too hot and not to mention a major pain in the arse for me and him.

hm my bro got a ticket to tokyo (he went there from LA) for 700$, quite cheap, i guess your price is that high because its high season at christmas time but check all those websites, over 1000$ for a flight to japan from the US is too expensive

Depends on who you are and how you look at it. I wanted to upgrade some tickets from Narita to DFW with the million miles I had. They told me that, "well, you bought the cheap tickets, so you can't". They were $1000 each, plus $500 to put my kid on my fucking lame for 13 hours. My son is only 15 months old and is already $900 in the hole.

Most airlines are mean like that, you generally find that the cost of a full price economy ticket is generally more expensive then the cheapest premium ticket.

Although with Virgin Atlantic, I flew to Tokyo so much that I managed to save enough miles to get a return ticket from London to Tokyo for the cost of taxes (about $500).

The wife and I have matching JAL cards. We live off of them, so upgrade to biness for trips where it's applicable. Wasn't applicable to DFW b/c it was a code share (with American).
