I am a fan of Space Harrier and I remember seeing previews of Planet Harriers, the sequel to the arcade classic, but I have never seen one. What happened to it???
This is one of those Sega games releases on the arcade but don't see a port to any system. Other forgotten games worth mentioning: Sega Super GT, Emergency Call Ambulance, The Lost Word, Le Mans 24, Dirt Devils, Club Kart, Indy 500. Just to name a few :-(
Aww man, Emergency Call Ambulance was an awesome game, by hitmaker i beleive... used the crazy taxi engine... I think it's a naomi game... PH was great too, i spend loads of money on it. Other lost games i played, that i liked were Jambo Safari, and Brave FireFighters... Also heard that sega were gonna release a arcade collection close to the dreamcast's death, with Jambo Safari, Brave Firefighters and Emergency Call Ambulance on... The only thing i use GTA on PS2 for is stealing an Ambulance and recreating the good old days! )
I always thought Jumbo Safari looked piss poor. Dodgy looking animals and very plain looking levels. Yakumo
Sega Super GT, The Lost World and Club Kart were released on the Saturn (I know this coz I've got 'em). Le Mans 24hr was released on the Dremacst ( again, I know coz I've got it). However do wish Planet Harriers is released one day on the home console.
The reason that Planet harriers has never saw release on anything is that the game was produced for the Hkaru aracade board and this was totally unrelated to the dreamcast unlike the naomi arcade machine.Releasing it on any system would mean rewriting the code from scratch and it's lack of commercial success in the arcades prevents Sega from doing this. You could always buy the arcade machine, it's expensive but the Hikaru was some peice of kit.It was another Dual cpu beast like the Saturn. It is capable of some spectacular lighting effects, and I mean spectacular, just look at Planet harriers for edivence of this.It can also shift huge amounts of scenery at a time at unbeleivable frame rates.Any of the current consoles would struggle to do PH, even the xbox. The arcade has come down in price significantly if you can manage to find one.Your best bet would be to find an arcade that has one and see if they want rid off it, they most likely would want to offload it as the game is approaching four years old now.A little trivia fact is that the Hikaru was known inside Sega as Model 3.5 and the boards codename was SK-V.It was dropped as it's dual cpu architecture was prohibitely expensive compared to the naomi 2.Far more powerful than Naomi 2 though, more powerful than model 3 too.
Jumbo Safari is at my local arcade, the graphics really are quite sparse, but its still mild fun, wouldve worked with the other games cool in a compilation. I always wanted to play Moto Raid, looks too badass, like tron vs wipeout.
I remember playing the Hikaru based Star Wars - Episode 1: Racer Arcade. Man... that was a amazing game... I think it's the only arcade I has ever wished to have in my house. I prayed for Sega to release this game on Dreamcast (even a toned down version) but instead we only have the SW Episode 1- Racer made by Lucas Arts, not a bad game but very desapointing after played the Sega one. :smt009
You guys are all forgetting Top Skater!! The arcade-to-saturn conversion that almost was.. :smt022 It would have been cool if they'd released some sort of skateboard peripherial for it to attempt to emulate the arcade version, as well...
Don't confuse 24 Hours Le Mans with Le Mans 24h. The one in dreamcast is an Infogrames/Atari game. The Le Mans 24h i'm talking about is a SEGA Model 3 (Step 1.0) Arcade Game Same for Sega Super GT / Scud Race. It's the Model 3 (Step 1.5) Arcade game i'm talking about. And Club Kart is even more high tech. It's on a NAOMI 2 board. So if these games were to be converted, they would be on the Dreamcast , or others like PS2, Xbox, or Gamecube. Not the Saturn :smt023
HIkaru hardware is very hard to come by. I've never seen one for sale, and it's Oogata (a big ass box) meaning it'll take up a lot of space. Then you've got to worry about the controls. I wish they made a home port. There was rumor a GC verison was in the works, but was shitcanned.
Sega Hikaru Hikaru's architecture is derived from the NAOMI family, but it is much more powerful than the upgrade that was NAOMI2. Sadly, only a few games were developed for Hikaru before Sega decided that the cheaper NAOMI2 was a better platform. Also, I must add that SuperGT/SCUD Race and Club Kart were definitely NOT released for the Saturn - the latter wasn't even available in arcades until the Dreamcast's final days, so how could it have appeared on a console from nearly three years previous? The Lost World did make a Saturn appearance, but this was not the Model 3 title but a console-designed platformer produced by a third party. It's possible that a conversion of SCUD Race would have been approved following the success of Sega's first Model 3-to-Saturn title (Virtua Fighter 3), but we all know what happened to that... There is an interview with the Top Skater team in which they deny that the game was being converted to Saturn, though it was definitely another Model 2 conversion that is still a missed opportunity (as with the original Virtua Striker, Motor Raid and Indy 500). On the subject of Indy 500, a conversion of this game was intended as the next Saturn project after Daytona USA. However, plans were changed when Sega began to receive demands for a "remixed" version of Daytona, which subsequently led to the Championship Circuit Edition. In my opinion, Daytona was fine - albeit a little untidy graphically - to begin with, though having two new tracks and multiplayer options may redeem CCE after all...
Sorry but you are right. The thing is I've never played the arcade versions so when I read the game names I assumed the console games were the same as the arcade ones. Anyway thanks for correcting me, must go to the arcades and look out for some of these then!
You were right in that there is indeed a SEGA Club Carts game on the Saturn, but it was a home game, developed in Europe I believe, some years before the current arcacde racer. Might be called Kart Championship or similar, i have a SSM review here somewhere.
Don't worry. I sometimes make confusions myself. And yes, you should go try to find them on your local arcade. If you can't them let's hope Model2/Model3/Naomi advances faster. :smt045 Anyway, blame the game companies for releasing games with similar names :-D
What about Cyber Troopers Virtual On 4. I have only seen it on the internet, I have yet to see an actual arcade machine.
