Anyone Know anything about this - You Click on anything PSP Related, and it says :

This item is not available for shipping to
    # United Kingdom

Something to do with the electric bird land cease and desist case? I'm guessing so :smt022

He said Play Asia won't ship anything PSP-related to the United Kingdom, and wants to know why.

It's because Sony has gone on a legal rampage in the UK, threatening all shops that carry import PSP gear with illegal competition and legal action (not to mention cutting off their supply chain in the future).

Basically Sony is trying to say "we don't want to sell the PSP in the UK yet so NO ONE is going to sell the PSP there." Takes the meaning of region restricted to a whole new level.

I think a big part of the reason why they are dragging their heels for an EU release is because some UK company (I think UK, may not be) own the copyright name PSP, so they can't legally release it here under that name without coming to a legal agreement with the legitimate name owners.

Everyone run out and register every name they can think of to do with "360" "Revolution" "PS3" etc etc. You could make a big profit!

    Hey

My package with Smart Bomb PSP arrived from Play Asia today. I ordered it last Thursday. Then again, I purchased a few other non-PSP bits so that might of solved it. Just an Idea.

    Joe.

Edit: Oh yeah and I was in a local HMV today and they had loads of 'Septmeber 1st PSP' signage everywhere and theyd already started selling third-party PSP gear. Odd.

Yer, looks like it was pretty recent, I don't think that they were saying they won't ship to the UK yesterday. Damn Sony. If you actually released the PSP less than 9months after Japan then people wouldn't need to import it. They've created a buzz in the US and Japan, Which has spread via the internet, but they are trying to stop people who are obviously interested in the games from buying them, so they can sell them at a later date for twice the price. I'm fucking fed up of it.

Here is not the only place the news has spread. The folks on the NTSC UK forums are pissed off too. Looks like sony has lost a lot of new uk psp customers, yaay way to go sony "clap clap"

    http://ntsc-uk.domino.org/showthread.php?t=42870&page=1&pp=10

Sony are running scared because they have fucked it up by leaving it too long. They dont seem to be aware that nowdays there is a whole world to shop from & people arent held to ransom in the uk.

Apparently if you read the full thread sony are demanding that retailers give over the addresses of everyone who bought a psp as they are complaining about damages & losses from people importing.

LOL sony are so full of themselves they are going to fall on their sword if they are not careful. Its this kind of shit that pisses me off, & yes nintendo are guilty of it too.

They are even at it here in Japan. recently I've seen signs in Electronic stores and Toys are us written in English and Korean saying that no one may buy more than 2 PSPs at a time. Then goes on to say that they are not for export. Bollocks to that ! They aren't stopping me :p I still buy loads at a time. The shop is made up to be making money.

Sony are stepping WAAAY over the boundaries of what they can legaly and rightfully do if the above statement has any truth to it (Im having a semi-hard time believing that even Sony would be gutsy enough to try that).

  13. If anyone from the UK needs a PSP tell me and I'll go to the store and get you a new one. When is it going to be released in the UK anyhow?

they have not mentioned anything like that here in the U.S., however most people who own a psp here do not want to part with their as well have no clue about exporting to the european market, however part of the reason sony keeps delaying for the U.K. is mostly just supply, mind you where i work we still have a good amount from another shipment and there are 5 or six left, but belive me if i bought more then 1 theyd probably refuse due to supisciousness. The thing is that while sony was in a rush to pentrate the market from the ds, they forgotabout the issue of supply and demand, and sadly it has caught up to them. Look at sonys answer to segas vmu which was the pocketstation, the thing sold really well, but they ended up killing it off since they in no way could keep up with demand. Yet with psp the same is happening, however they are not going to kill it off since theyve invested so much into it as well as them waniting to take a piece fo nintendos market. The reason it is not hard to find here in the U.S. has all to do with the fact of the portable price. Belive me when i say this, if the thing was the same price as the ds, it would slaughter it. Even then it is also becoming difficult to find memory stick duos. On sunday we had the 512mb on sale for $64.99, so i decide to get one on first day of sale which was sunday, the thing is put on a special rack that requires a key to access it, a co worker of mind gets me one and rings it up, mind you it is early moring and none have been boughten yet. I dont bother to go check on it. It friday and we are completye out of stock on all 2 shelves. So even as sony has its hardware supply woews, sandisk and them are making a killing off of memory stick pro duos. It's all part of sonys grand marketing scheme, and lets not forget how they pulled an late 80s nintendo with their threats to retailers not to sell bleemcast, i applauided eb world for not caveing in.

A freind of a freind has something to do with the PSP name....he had it some time before they even thought about it so he is in negotiations with them at the moment.

I think first time round they offered something like £20000 and he said Foxtrot Oscar!

I`ll check on the latest when I can

20000 pounds ? They are right stingy bastards ! They could give him 2 million and still not even feel it. Sony are being right little Hittlers with this UK think. Even stopping EBay !! That can't be legal, can it?

I think that government should really be looking into this. Surely this has to be seen as restriction of trade.
