Nice! Good footage, better than my from that Games Convention here in Germany. Allthough it lloks even better in real life! :smt023
Yeah, I saw it today as well by accident. I can't wait to get my hands on one! Screw you DS, PSP I'm going to buy ya! Somebody able to import one for me from Japan next week???
It looks pretty good but theres one thing wrong that sony have really stuffed up on. Now where is the protective shutter on the disk that will stop the exposed area from getting dust & dirt under it. All it will take is one tiny piece of dirt to get in and when the disk spins it will scratch it to hell. Sonys minidisks have a shutter cover so why dont umd's?? Im hoping retail games will have some form of slip case like minidisks do. Otherwise your going to have to carry them round in their retail boxes. Yet another reason i love cart based handhelds :smt023
Wonderful about the PSP, now we can play rehashed PSI and PS2 games on the go! Yay! * *For only 5-8 hours, since we, Sony, didn't think battery life was very important.
Come on, who are we to make generalizations of a console's lineup when it hasn't even been released yet??? For that matter, if you're going to flame a console on rehashed titles, look straight at the DS. Mario 64 is rehashed. Urbz is a multiplatform port. Spider-Man 2, ditto. Urban GT a weak , formulaic, and typical racer. Feel the Magic is the only game that truly makes full use of the touch screen, mic, dual-screen functionality et al. SO what, we're all going to thrash the DS' library like the psychics we are and conclude its lineup will reflect the same weakness as its launch lineup? Funny you don't see these same people who bash the PSP as offering nothing new from the psone and PS2 ports never murmuring a word about the GBA's bloody NES and SNES port-itis. No, form them we get 'Ohhhhhhhhh! I finally get to play Mario 3 on the bus!!!" So what makes the value and thrill factor of playing GT4 Mobile without being chained to a wall and TV, on a blissfully huge 16:9 display, any differerent?????????? If it lasts 6-8 hours that's a failry decent time for battwery life. How long does your average laptop's battery last after all? I hardly see mosty PSP owners as jetsetters or Himalauan mountain climbers who need their console's batteries to last for half a day or days at a time and cannot charge them often. If you'tre on some cmaping trip in the middle of the Ozarks with no power your GBA SP and NGPC's batteries will die out too. For the functionality, blisfully huge screen and optic media + drive the PSP offers the battery life is very decent.
The back reminded me of the cover of my Minidisc player - looks like Sony borrowed a lot of ideas from their MD line to create the PSP media.
I said absolutely nothing about the DS or GBA, or any other handheld for that matter. I was talking about the PSP on its on own merits, not comparing it to anything. The lineup has been announced, not "officially" but there's an idea of what it is. And most of them are simply "ports" of PS1/2 games/series. GT4, Ridge Racer, Ape Escape, NFL Street, NBA Street, Madden, THUG etc. A lot of that content is already available on the PS2. Battery life still seems sketchy. 2.5 Hours or so for a movie on UMD is laughable. 8 hours of battery life isn't bad, but it could be better. We'll have to wait and see if it actually gets 8 hours. And, for the record, there are some laptops that get a good 4.5-5 hours of battery life on a single charge. And said laptop has a much larger screen, drive, and the ability to play DVDs longer than the PSP can play UMDs. This isn't an arguement of PSP vs. DS. I just don't see what's so great about the PSP. There's 2 games I'm interested in. The DS, for that matter, also has exactly 2 games I'm interested in ATM, so no great shakes there either. Honestly, the only title I'm *truly* excited about for PSP is Lumines. Looks sweet. :smt023 If I get a PSP, it'll be for that.
It was just a point, I don't think lap-tops have anything to do with the PSP, but since Idr mentioned it, I thought I'd throw it out there. ;-)
About the games: http://www.playstation.jp/psp/software.html Those are actual games to be released. I don't see any ports/remakes. Sure some are of existing franchises but they are all new games.
What? Has the PS brand become so intwined with Japanese society that they are now exempt from normal domain names? :smt043 (notice the .jp domain instead of .co.jp)
