How do! Now im sure there's a fair few of us familiar with the titles avilable for Playdia, but what about their actual gaming content? I'm really not sure, can I get the simple low down. I'm a big fan of laserdisc style action games, i'm hoping this is the case, but I predict they are more pedestrian select the next segement of the story etc?
Indeed, very mediocre. But it does depend on what you are into. Lets take the best of all the idol games imho (also perhaps the most widely known?) forest sways, it does have the elements of an adventure game in that you complete various minigames and select the next part of the story segments to unlock passwords. Then you get further and further into the game and see more content. So if you like voice acting and adventures, this is quite satisfying. But most of the adventure games are merely of the select the next option type. They really rely on you liking the anime/voice actress/super robot it question to enjoy the games. Also it is worthy of note that playdia V games come in large boxes usually with extra things - from ost, stickers for your playdia, etc. So in terms of the best gaming for the playdia (ie, not kiddy gaming!) - Either of the DBZ games, good animation and lots of varied ways in which you make decisions, Forest sways, an adventure game that needs you to do quite a bit of (simple) puzzles to get anywhere. Err and that is probably as good as it gets, it is not about gaming, it is about collecting/obscurity and if you like the anime in question you will probably get a lot more out of it. (oh and a complete playdia set up is dirt cheap, as are the common kids games)
Thanks for that Warakia, sounds thrilling. If you don't mind, what of the Ultraman games, same deal as the DBZ ones? It's a shame given the nature of the format that there are no fmv action games in the Strahl/Road Blasters FX mould :/
Yeah a big ditto for the ultraman games, but it is worth noting that they are new episodes, so it is like playing/watching a new episode of an anime. So yeah, not a lot going on. On one of the idol discs (pink one - forgotten the name) there is a live action adventure in "samurai era" Japan, so it is not all kiddy tv content. Ah well, it is not a gaming machine (it could have been better) when I get the final playdia v super robot game, I'll update - it could be the killer app after all! For the record people in Japan did find it funny when I - A) asked for playdia games B) Paid solid amounts for the rarer ones! I say - No harm in collecting for obscurity/knowledge's sake.
