Hello All, so i recently picked up a modded original Xbox from a friend who was moving, and decided to back up several of my games i had kicking around, backed up a copy of Colin Mcrae 4 to the HDD, then ejected the disc , played with no issues for about half a hour, then during a loading screen , suddenly the drive started making all sorts of funky noises and semi-locked up the system before displaying "There is a problem with the disc you are using. It may be dirty or damaged" mind my newbie-ness with Xbox, is it simply somthing i missed or dont have confiugured right ? how can a game being read from the HDD have disc read errors ? thanks all for any response
Could be the HDD is failing or the disk was not dumped correctly, Either do to faulty/failing disk drive or scratched/damaged disk. But no there is no configuration for running games from HDD. How exactly did you dump them BTW?
Thank you for the quick reply , i used a utility on the Xbox called 'DVD2H22' .. somthing to that effect, the dump seemed like it had no problems .. i'm now thinking the drive could be faulty , as i went turned it on today and got the good old "xbox requires service' screen on boot :/ Was running fine yesterday, and i never adjusted any of the dipswitches , or anything like that.
Yea then it might be the disk drive, You could either try ripping it from PC(not sure how) or just download a copy but thats kinda a gray zone. Tool wise I checked my Xbox and it seems I used an app named "DVD2Xbox" but I don't think the app was the problem.
Which error message is it giving you? Assuming it's like this screen: What's the number at the top left? Edit: Most of the error codes are explained here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/threads/xbox-error-codes-explained-go-here-first.373255/ Might give you an idea if it's hard drive related. Also, I believe the only way to rip an Xbox game is to use an Xbox... then you can FTP it to PC. Standard PC DVD drives will not rip Xbox games.
Code 09. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ yes, that was the program on the xbox i used for the rip ! Like you said though , probably was not the problem.
Thanks again for the replies everyone, so here is where I am at now, the Xbox seems to boot directly into that "requires service" screen , what are my options for access the BIOS ? is it hold the white button on bootup? I remember that from years back , but doesn't seem to do anything for me now, again , mind my newbieness , was never big into the modded Xbox scene , appreciate all help
Only certain mod chips will do the boot to chip OS with white button down. Do you know if the box has a chip? reflashed tsop? or just softmod? There is actually nothing to access in the bios. Can you boot up slayers evo x dvd?
Sorry, should have had more info in the post, it has a xecuter Chip. Little blue LED on the front the console with 3 dipswitchs , 'on/off' 'Protected/unprotected' and 'Bank 1/2' I believe. the thing ran great up until it locked up playing that game, now I cant get past that 'service' screen with the 09 Code, what would be my options now? I would imaging I could wipe the HDD and reload XBMC and all that ? I feel so clueless when it comes to Xbox's
Be sure to check the connection to the drive too, sometimes even the DVD-ROM cable being bad can trigger an 09 error, also a bad IDE cable too. If none of that fixes your issues then this is your current option. You have a chip, so take out the damage hard disk, place in another. Run a disc like Hexen, AID or if the modchip boots in the Config Live you'll be able to format a new drive. I haven't used Hexen before, but AID will show a dialog once the disc is loaded, pretty much a yes or no answer for formatting a drive. You'll be up and running in no time.
Thanks Guys, I made a Slayer EVO X DVD last night, briefly tried to launch it , but it would still force me into the "Service Required" Screen ... I'm honestly suspecting the Drive is pooched , but I will definitely open it up after work and check all the connections on the DVD and IDE cable. Thanks again for everyone's Help.
If the drive is unlocked (which it might be because you have a chip), slam it into a computer and see if the computer can pick it up. If it works, use HDTune to scan it for any damage to the drive. If it's locked, it will need to be unlocked first.
