Not sure if this was covered before, but how hard would it be to play DOOM 3 co-op with two OG Xboxes? I'm positive it wouldn't be impossible, but I assume it wouldn't be as easy as just connecting two Xboxes with two copies of the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You just need two xbox, two copies of the game, two Tv and a cross-over ethernet cable & BOOM. Co-op & Deathmatch

It's really that simple? Awesome, thanks for the heads up.

Yes, you can do that with any game that supports system link. I also discovered something cool recently, which is that you can do the same thing with an original Xbox and a 360, as long as the game is supported by the 360. I have a setup where I can connect my original Xbox in my bedroom to my 360 in my living room, which is pretty cool. I finally have a reason for owning 2 copies of Halo. I've yet to try playing with someone, but it definitely works.

Also it usually works over a router or a switch, so you don't have to find a crossover cable. Not sure if you can use Wifi on the 360 though.

I think any standard ethernet cable will work. That's what I'm using.

I tried that for Halo system linking before and it didn't work.

Like I said, that's what I used to connect the Xbox and the 360. I think I've done the same thing with 2 original Xboxes (?) at some point, too.

Thanks for all the information. Now all I have to do is buy another copy of DOOM 3, which shouldn't be too hard. Saw one at The Exchange for $5. Only possible issue I foresee is that I have the limited edition copy of DOOM 3. If I was to purchase a standard copy, there might be an issue of compatibility. Although this seems a bit far fetched to me.

The limited copy isn't hard to track down either, I think I got mine for like $8 at the Exchange by me. Definitely worth it though.

I have at least 2 different Ethernet cables, so I can just convert one of them into a crossover cable if using the straight Ethernet cable doesn't work. I think my roommate has another copy of either Halo or Halo 2 which will help with testing before I buy another copy of DOOM 3. If anybody else has some first-hand experience, please let me know. Thanks again for all the help, everyone.

Also, the plural of Xbox? I think it's Xboxes, but the weirdo in me just wants to call them Xboxen. Herds and herds of Xboxen.

If you have a router or switch you can just use CAT5 cables for both Xbox consoles, just plug each console into the same switch. Or fireup X-Link Kai and have your buddy stay home and play over the internet.

Ahh, that is a great idea! I guess I should have looked harder to find if that existed. Shouldn't be too hard to set up, I just hope it doesn't bog down our internet too much. Thank you!

Yeah, I think the Xbox was the last great one room multiplayer system.

Whole nights spent playing Halo, or the not actually great multiplayer in Republic Commando.

Wow, this entire thread reads like it's from 2004.

Crossover cable if you dont' want to use a router/hub/switch.

Regular Ethernet if you have a router/hub/switch.

    It's that simple.

    Fair enough.

Guess I do sound relatively uneducated. I personally have never connected two consoles together, neither in 2004 nor through to 2015. Always more of a single-player/single-console single-TV multiplayer person. I guess I could have consulted the internet more extensively. I just thought I could get a relatively quick answer here, which I've received. So we can all jump back into our time machines and forget these fateful days ever existed haha.

Let's go back 20 years, 1995, it was with Kali95 and Roger Wilco for chat. Any IPX game over dialup could get together and play online, Lan Parties became popular because of HPB(High Ping Bastards), Xbox live basically killed off Lan parties for us.
