Experience them all through your PlayStation 2, only with Action Replay MAX." when the hell did this happen? how is it possible?
SNES - Only works with ROMS in a CD PGen 1.2.5 - Better than the one with AR. Loads roms from MC1,MC2,HDD or USB. Don't even bother with PS2MAME. It's just a tech demo. The guy never optimized the code, only made it work with some games. Plus it needs a connection to the host0:/ (it means you have to connect you PS2 to your PC, and connect them using PS2Link and PS2Client.) There are other good ones like InfoNES, Wonderstation and NeoCD/PS2
This uses a technique called UMCD-R. It's some kind of a exploit, you put data on a CD-R, but the PS2 recognizes it as a CD-AUDIO. Datel stole the code from the original coder.
It's sorta the same principal as the swap discs, or i guess it's really closer to hd loader. Basicly the security for the ps2 is trivial to crack if you have a stamping machine. The action replay is stamped with a valid security key which lets the disc boot in a unmodded console. The action replay has something of an operating system that lets you boot other things, like emulators. It's actually a bit more complicated than that, but that's the nutshell version...
I think he's talking about the hability to read CD-R's in a unmodded PS2. The AR Max has a small program that you add the files (roms, mp3s...) and it generates a image to burn. This image uses that UMCD-R technique. It hides some execution routines in the ELF files. So it gets recognized as CD-Audio, but in fact it's a CD with data files. There's a thread at PS2-SCENE.org that explains how it works and what happened (how the code was stolen). The original coder, dropped it's development after the code was stoled. There's a similar (but totally different) new format called CDDAFS (used by SMS Media Player http://www.adam.com.au/kellyjones/sms/index.htm )
Does the new AR allow PAL games to run on an NTSC machine? I don't want to rip my drive open with the disc key thing, nor do I want to modchip it.
I think it's because it's not a bootable disc. It won't run anything. The files (videos, roms) are hidden, and the PS2 thinks it's a CD-Audio. Only when you run the SMS Media Player or PGen, they recognize the contents of the discs, because they were programmed to see those hidden files.
hey, dont mean to bring up old topics, but where can I get the ELF file to run both the NES or SNES emu off of AR Max? Thanks
