Hey all again! My HD tv is 32'' and I got a scart cable long ago witch switches between dvd mode and game mode. The dvd mode smoths the picture so it gets less blocky, but reduces color and details. Now that I got an HD tv, and I got no PS3 yet, I would really like to display my PS2 in the best resolution possible. I've read this article: http://www.superufo.com/pp/news_content.asp?news_id=131 And I would like to know if anyone has ever tried it and if it's worth it. Do you really think this software + composite cable or vga box will make the graphics much better? I hardly believe that, cause unlike the Dreamcast, the PS2 was not build to output Vga mode I gues.. Thanks I got an Lcd too. I wanna know, whats the best way to get better graphics possible. Do yu think my scart cable is enough or should I got for a vga box?
Just my 10 cent worth: Like most DC games most PS2 games are designed to be displayed in 480 (and 4:3 aspect ratio). And like the DC the PS2 hardware can do progressive scan natively. The various game titles set in software whether or not they support progressive scan. While most DC games do, a lot of PS2 games do not. On both systems it is however possible to force the frame buffer to be displayed in 480p (as opposed to 480i) using different hacks. The HDTV Xploder uses such a hack on the PS2. What is really nice about these hacks is that the signal you get from the PS2 actually is natively progressive. VGA boxes deinterlace the signal, as does the PS3, and although there are different methods of deinterlacing, they all yield a somewhat different result.... Since most games are not designed for 16:9 aspect ratio, that is a different story Hope this somewhat helps.. CF
Thanks for the exaplanation... although I feel I do not know what to choose. Should I just go for a vga box, so I can use on both HD and Lacd Tvs? If yes, which vga box should I buy?
I bought hdtv player and while the component cable you get is good, I don't use the software. I've not really ever noticed any benefit, but then my tv might just be doing a good job at deinterlacing it. Or The games I play might not run in interlaced mode anyway. It does give you the option of running games in higher resolutions. But that just makes them smaller. PS1 games could benefit from it as they are really blocky, but they don't work with it. Your cable switches between rgb & composite, because most PS2's prevent you from playing dvd's on an rgb cable. I think it forces component mode, so the colours go off. The advantage of a component cable is that the quality is there all the time with no pesky switches. If ulaunchelf had an option of forcing progressive then I might use it. But the hdtv player software is just too much of a hassle for me. I would only use a vga box for connecting to a vga monitor. Your tv should have the equivalent function built in. I don't play that many games on my PS2, but by telling it that I have a 16:9 tv it seems that the games i have tried are full screen in the correct aspect ratio.
Oh well, I've seen a few screenshots around of someone who made a vga cable for the ps2 and used this software, and between his results and my cable, I've seen no big difference. That's why buying it could not be that worthy I suppose..
From expereance I find it best to just use a good CRT RGB TV. I keep a Sony Trinitron for all consoles except xbox/306 and PS3. The PS2 looks much better on this that on my 37" panasonic using component. I dont know how good a PS2 game would look on the PS3 HDMI, as sony hates me and my PS3 can't play PS2 games.
with the blaze software the result is really nice on most games, and it just doesn't work with others. so i'd recommend it. as far as a vga box- if you're gonna get one try to find the hori version (it uses component not composite like 99% of vga boxes). or you could use the blaze software and find a scart to vga cable and hook it up to your lcd (assuming it supports sync on green).
Can you give any examples of games it makes look better and what tv you're using? Because on mine, with the games I tried, I can't notice a difference. I'd love to see an improvement somewhere.
i'm using a crt monitor. i'm comparing it to my 720p tv, and my composite crt. i see you're in England. you're probably used to the goodness that is rgb. over here, it's a rarity looks good initial d contra macross mgs3
Yeah, my tv has hdmi, vga, rgb, component, svideo or composite. I don't even run my PS1 on svideo or composite
