Does anyone know of a device like a game genie or something that would not have to be modified to play import SNES (Japanese) games on a USA SNES? I don't want to take any tabs off of my SNES or whatever Game Genie/Shark etc I have to get either. Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

You can get riser cards that are specially for import games, they are cheap and work fine assuming the game you want to play doesn't have any region checking.

Mostly Europeans import SNES games. Strictly NTSC devices are rarer to find, it could take patience.

Game Genie? Pretty common and will work with most games. Also Pro Action Replay, and a number of physical import adapters of various makes and names.

Try Getting those SNES Copiers (the later versions) and then you can run your carts straight from there.

That makes me curious. What method does European Pro Action Replay use to work on an NTSC console?
We can safely assume versions released in Japan do.

The action replay has 2 cartridge slots. If you need to use a different CIC than the one in the top cart slot you use one on the back of the device I believe.

Game Genie ofcourse would only work for playing NTSC imports on a NTSC system.

I really don't understand why people get squeamish about this, it's just a couple of small tabs inside the cart slot, you're not going to notice them most of the time and if you take the console apart while doing it, there's no risk of damaging anything. It's one of the simplest mods you can do and needless to say it goes a long way to making the SNES more enjoyable.

You still have to cut the tabs of Game Genie.

Or can PAL Game Genie work on a NTSC system?

Cut the tabs of the Game Genie? What are you talking about? The Game Genie was an unlicensed device. I doubt they'd purposely try to block imports. I don't recall if I ever used a Game Genie to play a NTSCJ game but physically they should fit just fine.

It's just a physical barrier with NTSC games anyway.

SNES Game Genie has tabs blocking NTSCJ games.

    Genesis Game Genie didn't.

I see what you mean. You can just as easily cut the tabs off the Game Genie as in the SNES console though if for some reason you wanted to avoid messing with the SNES. I just cut the tabs out with a knife. I didn't remember the GG having those tabs so I guess I never tried using it for imports.
