I aquired a genuine .SRL file of a Nintendo DS game; but I'd like to know if it is possible to play this file with a emulator on a real ds, without the official Nintendo developmentstuff.
I know there have been small discussions about srl on the ds section of gbadev.org's forum thought I can't remember much of it.. but according to this source: ...thought I don't know how much of it is true. Also according to the release notes, no$gba should support it.
I don't know theory but in practice all .srl files I tried work as any .nds. Just a matter of extension naming. It was the same w/ GBA...
IF the srl is the same as nds, it should in theory be possible to run it using any NDS compatible flashcart. thought I base all this on assumptions
if you use a gba flashcart then it's recommended to append the loader first and create a .ds.gba file as some copiers corrupt the file if its just a plain .nds and it won't load. it really depends on the equipment you have. basically as it is a clean dump it should work with anything. i have used an efa flashcart and a gba movie player with fat-support (both go into the gba port) for some homebrew and demos. the newer carts for the nds port (that work with minisd or microsd cards) should be easier to use and also don't require a hacked firmware but i don't have any experience with those. there are really loads of flashcarts out there. maybe read some of the reviews on gbatemp or the information on phwiki first and buy whatever seems reasonable for you. as for European shops I can recommend totalgba in the UK. They only have the ezflash cards though.
I know that I'm just a noob, but if you were to post it, I could test it on 2 different DS Slot-1 flash carts. (N-Card and R4) I know the chances are small that you will post a link(or PM me with it) I'm just letting you know.
Thanks will try that. But unfortuatly I can not reveal the name of the game. Thanks for willing to help me, but I cannot share the data.
This may be grave digging, but I found this info on ndshb.com .srl (also called "clean dump", sometimes distributed as .nds because they use the same header) is a commercial ROM dump consisting of a .nds file and an appended file system, usually in Nitro-FAT format. The code in the .nds file reads from the appended file system using block transfers through the DS game card access registers. Homebrew tools do not generate .srl, and WMB does not support .srl. In the future, GBA Movie Player might support .srl by patching the ROMs to read the Nitro-FAT from the GBA Movie Player instead of the DS game card, but this isn't guaranteed to happen before DS end of life.
I finally got a slot-1 card for the DS. But the game doesnt boot; it does show a icon.. but when I try to boot it only gives a blank screen.
