I'm not really sure if this is the best place for this but what the heck. I just received a copy of the PlayOnline β Edition, this is a two CD set that has "PlayOnline Viewer β Edition" & "Tetra Master β Version".

Some pictures for you, sorry for the quality but I used my mp3 player to take the photos. At the moment I can't really do anything with it because it doesn't boot past a screen with Japanese writing, this happens with both discs. I am guessing that it is looking for a hard drive to install 1408mb of stuff onto but it would help heaps if someone could give me a translation. Here is a screenshot

[font=&quot]Apparently something like 500 of these disc sets were made and given to beta testers. For your interest I am running the discs on a DTL-H30002 S as I don't have a Japanese PS2, and obviously the discs aren't utility discs otherwise they wouldn't boot to that screen. I don't have an official Sony HDD, chances are if I try a retail hard disk it wont work but I’ll give it a shot anyway.

Thanks in advance to anyone who will translate that screenshot for me.[IMG]

    Basic translation -

Cannot identify (find) PS2 Hard Drive.

To use the Playonline viewer a Hard Drive is needed.
Also to install the Playonline viewer and tetra master etc you need at least 1408MB of free space.
Check your Hard Drive is correctly connected and then restart the playonline viewer.

As it is please turn off your Playstation 2.

Nice one on the discs by the way, I would love to pick them eventually, just for FF collection purposes. I don't know if you will be able to get these to run after the install as you may have to hook it up to the internet before it lets you do anything. Good luck with them.

Thanks for the translation Warakia now I understand things a little clearer. Well, I tried the retail hard drive without any luck, no surprise. It seems that the discs will be put away until I find a way of using them, its really quite annoying that Sony never released the HDD here. When my new DTL-H30002 comes hopefully *fingers crossed* it will be able to run utility discs, then I will buy an official HDD.

Incase people didn't know, PS2 format media can be of two types regular game or utility disc. Older PS2 debugging stations (aka TEST) generally don't read the utility format, the discs used for formatting and installing the HDD are all in utility format. You can see my problem.
