Tried playing Matt Hoffman's BMX original CD and could not load level since loading progress bar was constantly skipping back until it could complete. It came to 75% or so of loading progress after it could not make it further. Check this video out and try focusing on background CD trembling as PlayStation tries to load level: Cleaned lens with isopropyl alcohol 99%, washed Destruction Derby 2 original CD with soap and water that device could not load initially after second PlayStation Sony Computer Entertainment basic screen. Washing CD and cleaning lens seemed to have worked except some graphics in menu are corrupted. After successfully completing race I chose to view replay but after loading bar finished loading, nothing happened. Tried with no luck running Twisted Metal 2 original CD ending on second Sony Computer Entertainment basic screen until I washed it with soap. But menu music sounded as one loud beep and although successfully completed 1st level, it could not load second. Tried loading Crash Bandicoot 2 (burned CD) and it could not get past second basic screen (mentioned above). After some powering on/off PlayStation it finally ran but was stuck on first in-game cutscene. Tried playing Syphon Filter (burned CD) and in-game dialogs were disrupted as though characters were swallowing words. It also took me many tries to get past basic second screen until Syphon Filter 3 (burned CD) finally loaded. Finally tried running Mortal Kombat Trilogy (burned CD) and it was stuck 2-3 times before loading main screen of game itself. The only game it loaded without problems was Tekken 3 (burned CD). I would like to also note that when progress bar gets stuck loading and skipping back, I open cover and close it which supposedly gives PlayStation to retry load which sometimes works. What do you think is wrong with PlayStation and how can I fix problem? Thanks.
I remember back in the day when your ps1 developed reading faults that the first thing we'd do is put the console upside down and see if that fixed it, then we knew if it was the laser or disc carrier that was at fault.....worth a shot maybe?
RichsPSXparts: http://store.richspsxparts.com/newkspllaas.html They say previous had quality issues so I wonder if BAM will work.
nearly every version of the PS1 has another model drive so i would just go by what master991 sayd. or you can remove the laser/drive thats in it now check under the laser/drive what the model number is and order that from ebay. what you also can do is up the power to the laser itself this is done by multiple pot meters on the laser and motherboard of the PS1 http://dogbreath.de/PS1/LaserAlignment/Laser.html hope this helps you out you can always try the laser alignment first if this does not work buy a new laser they are around 9 dollar shipped
