    Howdy all,

Just wondering if anyone on here knows about compatibilty between SCPHs and their power supplies. I know on Sega Saturns there were three types that weren't cross compatible. Did the Sony systems have it a little more streamlined and have say... full compatibility across all models? I'd be most curious to hear! :)

    Thanks in advance!

Hey, I'm writing this from memory so there could be small mistakes ;p

The very early PSX used an 8 Pin power supply. Every (fat) console from the PU-18 onwards works with a 5 Pin one.
Even though the power supplies were refined over the years, you can use any 5 Pin supply with any 5 Pin board.
They did change the capacity a little but the power supplies have enough reserves and I never noticed a problem.
Some people even adapted 5 Pin supplies for the older boards ;)

Edit: Note that this is true for all regions. So you can swap a PAL and NTSC-J supply to adapt a console to your mains :)

Perfect, thanks! That's exactly the information I was after! :)

    Ohhh no of course not...
*looks around for a window to escape from*

Alright, you got me :) The PSU on my SCPH-1002 looks quite burnt around one part of the board. Everything in your one looks pristine! Plus the PCB looks a lot nicer than the PAL version (both are PU-8). Decisions, decisions! At least I know the SCPH-900X units can go out the window with no regrets! :)

Edit: Looks like the PU-22 and PU-23 machines all have Nichicon PSUs while the 100X ones have Matsushita. I'll be sticking with the PU-8 board for PSIO in that case. Might replace that burn / burning component on the PSU though - just to be safe!
