Hey Everyone, I'm not sure what the exact problem is, so I'll list everything I can in hopes someone can help. I have a few playstation systems, a mixed between original grey ones and smaller white PSone. I've installed a MM3 mod chip into one of the psones and I can now play imports and backups perfectly. However, for some weird reason, some of the backups work every time I boot, where as others play, kinda when they want to. here's a example. I have Persona 1 and Persona 2 burned onto CD-R's Persona 1 plays every time I pop it in the system and power on. Persona 2, will work but only if the system has been off for at least 10 minutes or so. If I play Persona 2 and then after a little bit, like 5 minutes, if I power down the system and power it back on, the disc cannot be read, and it will go to the main menu, or the red "insert a valid playstation game". I also tried these games in a original large playstation with a Game Hunter plugged into it, and same exact problems. Here's some of the things I've tried, - Tried making ISOs of my original Discs - Downloaded and Burned the ISO/CUE/IMG from multiple sources/sites - Tried Memorex, Verbatim, and Sony CD-R's - Burned on a Windows PC using Alcohol 120% and Nero - Burned on a Mac using Liquid CD and Toast - Used the built in slim drives on my Mac and PC - Used and external full 3.5" burner drive on my Mac - Swapped the lasers out from 5 or so PSone systems, - Cleaned all lasers - Slowly adjusted the Pots on the lasers - Tried 3 different Large original Playstation 1 systems with the Game Hunter. I'm stumped, is there a trick I'm missing? a patch I need to apply when I burn? I've tried a few different how to burn guides and so far the results are the same with minor differences. It's not just Persona 2, I also have this problem with Breath of fire, Final Fantasy VII, as well as Tales of Phantasia Thanks in advance for any advice!
After the system is warm does original/ non-cdr games work? I'm guessing so? Sounds to me like something funky is happening with the mm3 when the system is warmed up. Edit, disregard this; saw that you also tried with a game hunter...
"Warmed up" might be the keyword here - check/redo your solder points, maybe one of them loses connectivity when heated? Though that wouldn't explain why it's only some games that have problems.
I did a bit of looking around online and found Mayumi, would I be better off using the Mayumi hex/code vs the mm3?
First, what do you mean when games don't work? Hangs at boot logo, return to the bios menù, appears message" please insert playstation disc or other things?
Usually when they don't work, It'll get to the black Playstation logo screen and hang. rarely it'll go to the red "invalid disk screen"
Burn quality matters quite a bit with PS1s. Their lasers suck but I'd like to think at this point you'd find a working combo.
Your first post doesn't make sense thing. I thought you said you tried an OG ps with a game hunter? And it experienced the exact same issues as the psone. Why are we assuming its the mod chip if the media is acting the same in both machines?
I feel like its a media problem as well, since the game hunter has the same issue, I'm just also working on a mod chip system as well and the chips i programmed for that seemed to be.. duds as far as I can tell. Whats the best program and media to use? other than 16X is there any particular setting I should check? I know with Alch 120% theres a playstation setting template. So my guess would be the CD brand is my issue. Whats a good brand? Thanks!!
I use taiyo yuden discs for stuff I plan on keeping and storing. I also normally burn at 8x with imgburn.
Okay, a new update for anyone who's following this, What I did, was on the Original Playstation 7001 system I had, I programmed another mod chip, and installed it and works great thus far. It's playing all the games with issues without a hiccup at all. The only thing different this time, is I used the modified HEX code for a 12F629 chip rather than the MM3 HEX for a 12C508 chip, which was nice since the 12F629 chip allowed me to erase them if I had a programming issue, as well as I can use a spare chip (since I got 10 of them) on my Wii as well. But so far, this modified HEX on the 12F629 is working perfectly, better than the previous chip I had and the Game Hunter device. Posting this may have well Jinx'ed me, odds are I'll turn around and the system will be in flames, but for now, It's working like a champ ^-^
