    Hy,

I have one memory card that have 2 slots with corrupted data.
Sadly I can't delete them from the memory browser.
Is there a way to fix this problem?
    I don't have a modded console.

    Thanks!

I always found that backing up the other saves onto another card then using a Action replay disc to format the card removes the corrupted data. I don't believe that the corrupted data could be recovered. Unless someone else has any suggestions??

You may need something like a SwapMagic Coder disc or some other method to load a homebrew program to format the memory card. Or maybe an Action Replay disc could do it. I don't think the built in OSD's Browser will let you reformat the memory card.

    That is true.

It depends on what the damage is. If the save file (the icon files are separate) is fine, perhaps the game will still recognize the save and allow you to re-save.

The corrupted data don't show any icon and if I try to delete it the browser show error that the data cannot be deleted.
If I try to copy it same error.
A friend of mine said that is a possibility the memory card to be modded and that's why the 2 slots cannot be deleted.
When I've first tried the card it was a save named Playstation 2 System or something like that with other saves and the 2 slots corrupted.

If you format the card with annihilator and the bad block returns, the NAND chip has worn out sectors which are not marked as bad blocks...

There is no "mod" (modification) to the memory card itself. If you meant FMCB, then it still wouldn't cause that because it is just some files that are copied onto your memory card.

There is a multi-installation type of FMCB. My FMCB installer hasn't been known to always correctly create such an installation (corrupting the filesystem instead), but you will likely notice that right after the installation.

Something else corrupted your card. Or if it keeps happening, it might be as l_Oliveira pointed out: it is possible that your card's NAND device is approaching its end of life (i.e. write cycle limit).

I already recovered many memory cards by replacing their NANDs. I have a bag full of new NANDs I bought many years ago.

People who play many RPG games actually do wear out memory cards really fast (one to two years) if the person plays a lot of games or like to save too much. Also a lot of games such music games do save a lot when auto saving feature is on. That's one of the reasons why SONY never released bigger memory cards even though the PS2 BIOS can support memory cards of up to 128MB. The bigger the card is the more sectors it has to manage wear leveling with therefore the longer it will take to wear down the card. That means less cards will be sold on the long run.

Do you have a USA PS2?
The American Viewtiful Joe 2 demo is infamous for erasing data, it might work.

Few other sensible options without homebrew. You already know PS2 does not allow users to intentionally format memory cards.

No. I have only PAL consoles.
For the moment I have 77003 and 77004.
I'm waiting for a Modbo to arrive to install it :(

There are official (i.e. licensed) cards that allow you to make more than 8MB of saves. But they are organized in 8MB pages, so it was likely kept that way for backward-compatibility. Without the user needing to worry about what works/doesn't work.

Some games probably already assumed that there won't be cards larger than 8MB because some malfunction when a card larger than 16MB is used.
By using a larger card with such games, the whole memory card somehow becomes corrupted.
    Overflowing after 16MB could mean that a signed 16-bit value might have been used (2^15 * 512 = 16MB).

So what is the problem now? @_@
So did you or did you not manage to get the card formatted?

One easy way to format the memory card is open it and short some data pins on the NAND with it connected to the PS2 and the PS2 at the OSD. Access the card within the OSD and as the OSD fails to retrieve the card's contents it will offer to format it. Just remove the short circuit and reply "yes" to the question at the OSD.
