PlayStation 3 fan extremely loud - Heat plate / spreader issue?

    The thermal applying was done perfectly fine.
    The heat spreader removal, was not.

    I guess he used something like if it was a crowbar (screwdriver ?) to release the heat spreader and the lever action damaged the GPU substrate surface, cutting copper lines... :x

    That's why one must be ultra careful when removing the heat spreader... >_<

    I gave the same advice to another person and he did the same ... I now will aways warn about the possibility of damage.

    I used a jack hammer.

    Nah, I used a knife with paper underneath and lifted up. The knife almost snapped.
    I heard a 'pop / crack' sound, so I think it was a BGA ball. I mean, the first reflow fixed the YLOD. Now I just have no picture. The traces are fine on the top of the GPU.
