Thats right! Sony can no longer make dual shock controllers! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Hows that for a taste of their own medicine http://www.japantoday.com/e/?content=news&cat=4&id=332037 Just goes to show, once a theif always a theif
post back here in a month if this holds true. I'm sure sony will easily sign a licensing agreement like many other companies did and move on. It's funny how MS uses force feedback like sony does, but they arent sued..oh because MS is a shareholder of that company. This would be funny if only for the fact that the ps2 would be pulled off the shelves conveniently before the xbox 2 supposedly comes out. Strange...but it wont happen.
Microsoft was sued as well but they chose to settle before the case. Sony will undoubtedly license from Immersion but they'll also have to pay the settlement. If Immersion doesn't want to go another round in court then Sony will probably end up paying around 1/2 to 2/3 of the settlement.
Looks like this is the week for arse kicking Sony. First the shitty PSP sales and high returns in the US and now a lawsuit. Yakumo
According to PS2NFO today: There is now a follow-up available on this story, and to quote: Quote: $ony has been ordered "to stop selling the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 game consoles using Dualshock controllers as well as more than 40 game software products." This is not entirely true, however. Courts records obtained by Ars Technica say that the injunction was immediately stayed by Judge Claudia Wilken. Wilken stayed the injunction so that $ony could prepare an appeal, and also forced $ony into a compulsory licensing scheme in the meantime. $ony would have been wise to settle as Micro$oft did, as Immersion seems hell-bent on a permanent injunction. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20050327-4739.html
anyone know what are those 40 games? and why those 40 games? i mean, is it because they use the dualshock function? because like 98% percent of the ps2 library is using it, and this is without talking about psone games.
This is what I was wondering about as well. It sounds a bit odd that they'd only go for forty specific titles, unless the game has "WE STOLE TECHNOLOGY FROM IMMERSION!!11!!11!" in it somewhere.
Calling the Dual Shock "Illegal" at this point is nothing more than fanboy propaganda at its finest. The order is currently stayed pending appeal. Sony can continue to manufacture and sell PS2s and Dual Shocks. Nothing is getting pulled from store shelves. -hl718
You know what will happen? Sony will pay that huge ammount of money and evething will be fine. Or you really think they'll let 40 games off the market? Or you think they'll develop a new controllers at this point? No way...
Yeah but say if sony lose again and if the company doesnt want to come to a licencing agreement... Can they just say no? What can sony do? Also i dont think its to do with the controler but the rumble?
It's usually in the end credits, although sometimes they have it listed in the instruction manual as well. On a different note, this sort of thing really serves to identify the (anti)fanboys on the board, doesn't it?
lol, at least no one claimed this was a microsoft conspiracy to force sony to stop selling games and consoles before the xbox 2 comes out..
Microsoft setled out of court aparently... I dont see why Sony dint. Apart from being stuck up fools thinking they can do anything!
