That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw that part. I'm sure someone is excited for the next generation of consoles, but it sure isn't me.
Blatant inaccuracies and the fact that it still is a bloody commercial aside, I still thought it was interesting on a technical standpoint, and I like the idea. Even though I'm 100% certain I've already seen that idea done before, and probably better, since advertisement companies often do little more than copy a thing that works : case in point each time a new Tarantino movie comes out, with Tarantino's usual "disc-jockey for movie buffs" approach to scoring, you can be almost entirely certain that one of the cues he used in the movie will be re-used in the following two months in a commercial, even though I'm fairly certain once again that the marketing agency has no idea what it refers to in the first place and just used the piece of music because it was in a Tarantino movie and therefore the cool kids will like it.
I not very excited about the next gen consoles because they're essentially PCs, and I already have a PC that's much more powerful than either new console. Also, I'm not too happy about the fact that they both went with AMD components.
Yes, its what that industry calls indirect advertising, in this case storytelling-as-ad Note the subtle cues, there is no real in-your-face announcements, its like product placement within a series the PSX is just part of the background, except it this case its an ad within a story within an ad... I call it the yo dawg model
almost made me forget how burned I got from having to buy at least 3 of each generation just so I could enjoy the few games I actually liked.
You mean because of region locking? I'm glad they did away with that. About freaking time (well PS3 is region free)! Tired was I of swapping discs or modding the systems (PS1/PS2). All we need is Nintendo to become region free and I can import some titles.
If you guys want to see some quality PR then check out Microsoft new Xbox One add. Now that is a great add and even funny. It's amazing how far they've come back after their awful E3 announcement. Now the Xbox One easily has the best launch line up and now has the better TV adds and if truth be told, is now looking the most cool. Along with all those limitations about used software, 24 hour net check in and other bollocks now gone the XBOX One is looking like a serious games machine again. Oh and a machine full of social media shit but we don't need to use that crap if we don't want to.
In the first scene, there's some later PSX games ex:vib ribbon (closer to psone era than ps1, but we can let that slide) represented on the wall... but also Wipeout Pulse/Pure artwork (PSP) inside boxart and the like. The Ico drawing on the wall was cute in scene 2. In scene 3, there's no way in hell that he's actually using a Vaio SR series laptop (early celeron) from around 2000 to get anything worthwhile done... Again, we see Journey (2012) , Little Big Planet (2009), Little Big Planet figures (2012), Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (2010), PS3 Bluetooth Headset (2010), Move (2010) in the initial representation of what must be supposed to be PS3 launch... I do like that the LBP poster almost seamlessly turns into an Uncharted 3 poster, but the errors in the rest of the video kinda make me disappointed is this is intended as a proper tribute. Maybe some RESEARCH should have been done by someone in charge of the campaign?
