I was cleaning and testing a playstation for someone when I spotted this under the PCB: When I unravelled the tape I found this. The leg with the red wire going to it snapped when i unravelled it. Im just posting this to make sure its a modchip and nothing special. It goes to the underside of the PCB I always wanna make sure if i sell it with it still attached it wont eventually cause damage (No soldering iron so cant remove it)
I can tell from the pic it's actually a "masochip"--it randomly harms the console to play into the prior owner's masochistic tendencies.
I had one the same, 8 leg modchip ic wrapped in insulating tape, with a 3 or 4 wires soldered to the pcb. If the leg has completely snapped off, it's possible to scratch away some of the chip casing to reveal enough of the leg to solder the wire back on. Or you could give it back to him and pretend nothing happened
Nah its not that he wanted it installing its that it came attached when I opened it (after previously buying it from a thrift store or something) I just want to make sure it will work fine with 3 out of 4 wires still attached. If he wants he can re attach it himself I arent fussed.
Im not after a new one I was just making sure it was one. It seems to work fine with it still connected but one wire disconnected so Ill just sell it as normal and he can reconnect it if he wants.
