http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2014-ps1-ps2-games-heading-to-ps4 hmmm where's that video clip interesting news
So this means current PS1 and PS2 classics purchases will be transferable and accepted on PS4? Wonder if they'll add "PSP Classics" in the near future.
I REALLY hope they let us use our own discs AND sell digital copies on the PSN. (That way they can make money and not just give away their work. I know i'd buy digital versions of games that I don't have and or are hard to find/expensive) Because if this generation is anything to go by, the selection in North America will absurdly bad compared to the likes of JPN.
Can't be anywhere near as bad as the European PSN. Seriously, the US one is like an absolute treasure trove compared to our one that I only use it for DLC for physical copies of games I've purchased in Australia. Everything else on my PS3 is either from my US or JPN accounts.
Who knows. Sony doesn't out right hate us like Microsoft. Discbased BC could be a huge selling point. I know PS1 compatibility was a huge selling point with my PS3.
If Sony were to make it backwards compatible with discs, the only option would be the PS2. The PS4 doesn't have a CD laser so that cuts out PS1 and some PS2 games and the PS3 is way to foreign to emulate. I still highly doubt the Sony would add disc based backwards compatibility.
The PS4 can read CDs just fine, it just can't play any CD-based media at the moment (although audio CD playback is coming in an update). I'd be very surprised to see it read PS2 discs though, PS1 yes since that's much easier to emulate. Besides, if they really were interested in giving us disc-based PS2 BC, they'd give it to us on PS3, but instead it's much better business to make people pay twice to play their games on newer systems.
Yeah doing what is best of business and what is most convient for owners of Legacy systems is a conflict of interest. Sony aren't innocent angels Lately they are the less of 3 evils but they have their dick move history.
Hence why I said they could do both. The selection of Digital games we get is pathetic. Allowing people to use their own discs isn't going to deter people from buying Digital Copies at all. That right there is it's own entire market.
Developing emulator costs a lot. QA of games on it adds even more. It's just not feasible to give emu for free.
They didn't rush the PS4 out at all.... I lie. I highly doubt anyone uses CDs for music these days, but shit, something that basic should be ready out of the box. :/
CDs still sell millions a year but Vinyl is cutting into CD sales. I think a record store owner said something along the lines of most people are either buyng Digital or Vinyl.
I do. It's a great medium for anyone interested in audio quality. It's true that you can achieve the same thing by converting them to a lossless format on your computer, but if you have a large collection, that could easily take up a very large portion of your HDD. Plus you miss out on having the original artwork and stuff.
I'm a little bit surprised by this, as this is a function that doesn't (or shouldn't) cost a lot of money or time to get working. I'm guessing it'll play MP3/FLAC stuff though?
